Ryan Buenafe, Eric Salamat, Greg Slaughter, Kiefer Ravena were all former MVPs in the junior ranks..

The sad thing for Mark Tallo is his position: PG, which is the same position as Kiefer Ravena.. As you all know, Kiefer is a highly touted freshman who can score and carry his team, eventually leading ADMU to the Fil-Oil flying V championship, no offense to Mark, Norman uses Kiefer in the said league, because Kiefer is somewhat familiar to ADMU's system since he came from ADMU juniors.

As an advice: he should have waited for his time in ADMU because in ADMU, the team is very crowded in talent, and as a freshman and from the province, you really have to strut some wares before the coach will notice your talent.. take for the likes of JC Intal and RAbeh Al-Hussaini, they were used only sparingly during their rookie seasons, the reason?? the team was heavily loaded with talent at their positions, they used that time to practice and hone their basketball skills and look at them now? di ba?? OPing Sumalinog, was a star in DBTC Greywolves, but when he came to ADMU, back to square one napud siya..

oping wasn't just a star but a superstar sa dbtc same thing with his 2 older bro's (though ang middle sumalinog kay dile kaayo superstar status considering ka batch sila ni kenneth robin (nasud sa mythical 5 pag rookie season niya sa uaap), vance and giovanni canceko) pero sinaligan gihapon in terms of shooting...

sa akong opinion dapat ni huwat unta siya hatagan og playing time if ganahan jud siya mo sulod og ateneo, norman black is a proven winner and he knows when to use his players on the court and which rotation to choose sa mga critical situations and besides graduating from ateneo with full scholarship is a big plus kung dile siya mo succeed sa basketball.

or if he wants to pursue his basketball dreams nya nahan siya superstar status or daghan playing time ad2 nalang siya sa adamson where cebu players are likely to be the go to guy like mark abadia and jerick caņada

sayang jud iya opportunity to play for ADMU, very good school, superb athletic and training opportunities..

reminds me of japhet aguilar, opting not to play for burger king whoopers, had a feud with then coach yeng guiao.. nangluod and instead opted to play for smart gilas..

sakto parehas jud ni japhet aguilar... i think ma.o gi hatagan og playing time pirme si ravena cause considering sa ateneo siya nag juniors ang system na gipa dagan ni norman black kay dali ra niya makuha, well im not saying si tallo dile makakuha pero mas kasagligan siguro si ravena para ni norman black.

bangko gani pirme si oping sa ateneo pero i think naka learn siya sa iyang mga maguwang na lisod e sulod sa PBA, ma.o na padayon gihapon siya sa ateneo then mo graduate na.a pa degree gikan ateneo hayahaya

Maam, for me sayang and bad timing lang gyud for your son to join Admu at a time where the recruitment class is very strong.

A lot of very talented players even end up in Team B. Your son is lucky to have made it to Team A.

Its very unusual for freshmen to get playing time. Kiefer Ravena is an exception because of the Hype since his high school days. Ravena's already versed with ADMU's system since he has been practicing with the seniors division since he was in 3rd yr HS.

At the PG position, your son needs to know the system really well as the PG is sort of the extension of the coach on the floor.

I know a lot of players who were only given the chance to play when they were in their 3rd or 4th year.

No matter how you slice it, everybody will interpret your son's actions as being impatient. His level of talent may be high but so is the level of talent with other kids out there. It's just a matter of getting used to not being the superstar of the team and your son earning his way into the lineup during practice sessions or pickup games.

Coach Norman also said that your son was still trying to learn the system of ADMU. As a coach, his mentality is probably that the system of play is more important than individual talent alone because how well your son works within the system is a gauge on how well he can help the team win games.

In the UAAP, they really bank on their system of play and the players have to learn to adjust to the system. I noticed that in other leagues, its more of a run and gun type of basketball not relying so much on a system or set plays.

Mga brad...ngano himoun mana ninyo nga isyo, dapat gane m support ta sa atong fellow cebuano kay pirme lng ta e look down sa mga tagalog, then besides la pta kbalo kng unsa jud ang dagan sa career sa bata. Being an ateneo varsity doesn't assure you to become a PBA player.

I don't think anyone here is putting Mark Tallo down. People just feel that what he did was in haste and he could have learned and improved a lot with ADMU.

I used to have that mentality that Tagalog people look down on Cebuanos... pero it's just an insecurity complex coming from the province. I myself came from Cebu and studied in ADMU.

I never felt that I was being looked down on. It's an unfair generalization sad.. it really depends on the personality of the person and has nothing to do with being from the province or the city.

Being from Cebu. a lot of my blockmates would even give praises about how they loved Cebu for the Resorts, Lechon etc. They would tell me how much fun they had when they visited Cebu.

Being an ateneo varsity doesnt guarantee PBA gyud... but having an Ateneo Education allows you better opportunities in life as well.

Being a star player doesn't guarantee you playing time either. You have to put in the work, patience, learn the system and prove your worth. Juami Chiongson, Gec Chia even Bacon Austria and Ken Barracoso were star players but they had to put in the work to get the playing time.

It's the same way sa PBA or NBA... diha gyud ma-ilhan ang character sa tao when he has to throw away his pride and let his play do the talking.
