do filipino musicians make any money?

I was just wondering.. i know nga daghan kaayo maga tao mu ingon that they do it for the art, love of music and everything but do they actually have anything to show for it? i just think that filipino bands musicians performers etc. deserve to be given their due.. diba? kay grabe ka talented ang mga pinoys (i especially like UrbanDub) so do filipino talents (Urbandub, SATI, etc.) get what they deserve?

They cant always play for beer bai. Maybe uban play for exposure pero mo abot ra g.hapon nang kwarta ana oi. ila pud baya na nga passion so i guess ang main drive kay dili lang kwarta gyud.

Urbandub's with EMI now, so I'm guessing they're well-compensated for their art.

Though they vehemently deny so everytime somebody asks them, hehe..but yeah, they are paid their dues I think. The same for SATI too and the other 'established' bands in Cebu.

There are bands however, who play just for the love of it. Regardless if they get paid or not. I've a few friends who have bands nga ok na nila bisag wala or gamay ang compensation. In this kind of setup, its always good to have a day job para na kay fallback in case the band's career doesnt take off.

That depends on what kind of band your in.... (if we are talking in a band context)

1.Â* Show bands in cebu,Â* maybe you make around P500 a night. ok nana. maybeÂ* around P10 to P15 grand a month per member ( if you are a good copy band).Â* Which means also, you get to play all the songs that sucks!!! hahahaÂ*

2.Â* Â*Indie Rock Bands, consider yourself fortunate if you can be in a concert even if your not paid. Maybe if you are lucky enough you get a slice of pizza!! But you get to do want you want, sing your own songs, express yourself. This is for love of music.Â* But you have a chance to go big time if you have good songs! Its like an all or nothing proposition.Â* But most guys in category do it for the love of music and are probably visionaries in their own rights.Â*

Â* Â* I talked to the manager of Greyhoundz and she said if you want to do rock music like the guys in Greyhoundz you have to be rich or belong to a rich family to sustain yourself.Â* The members of greyhoundz belong to rich families. Anak sa mga dato ug ma nga generals.Â* The Greyhoundz don't even have regular stints in the clubs because they are too loud. So their manager dothe concert bookings for them.Â* Kay mi sikat naman sila, they make around P60 grand a month (each) i guess.

3. POP rock and R & B bands signed to a major label. Sikat na sikat like South Border, they make around P200 to P300 grand (each) a month.Â* Mi sulti man sa akoa ang sister sa usa ka member sa banda.Â* Wa pa tingali na apil ang mga ringtones which is the fad right now.Â* Can you imagine if you have a hit song and all the girls in the Philippines request for your ring tones.Â* Millions sad na. Murag daghan na na ug kuwarta ang cueshe even if you don't like them. Bisag way such word as "crazily"...Â* But some of these guys are willing sell out just to make it to the big time.Â* Which means fame and lots of money. But at the same time we can't judge them harshly cuz it's "different strokes for different folks".Â*

4. Gary V (solo)Â* - asking price P500K a night. how's that!!!!

Â* Â*So that depends on what kind of group you are in.....Â* if you love music more than money or money more than music.Â* But its nice to have both i guess.(doing the music you love and getting paid for it.)Â* hahahaÂ* :mrgreen:

anyway, since you guys mention 'play for exposure' or for pizza and beer, ask lng ko if u know any bars na pwede ka play for 'that'

ive been to kahayag 3x... free food and drinks.. ngita na sad ko lain para busog pirmi...

bitaw.. any open mics around the bars today?

i dont think artists and ppl should find fault in accepting money for their art.. its fine when you make the music for the sake of making music.. its another thing making music for the money.. when you get paid to do it and you love making music then GREAT! its nothing to be ahamed of..

otro sad na.. para nako it would be much nicer if we had a music scene in which there were a lot of open mics and original live bands (not a big fan of cover bands) playing in bars or clubs.. not just in kahayag...

i think sa States or sa Europe the artists get a "commission" everytime their song is played on the radio.. is it the same here? i think its called something else i just say "commission" coz i dont know what to call it..

yes, carlito i totally agree with you.Â* There is really nothing wrong if you are renumerated for your talent/skill or services.Â* I think it's good.Â* If you want make a living as a musician, there's not too many options here,Â* you just may have to compromise and be flexible or most of the time bend over, espcially if you have a family to feed.Â* And your not even sure if you will be hired for the next gig or your group just might disband.Â* That's why there is a saying that goes like this...."Play as if it is your last". (your services might not be needed the following day eh di enjoyon nalang; likewise it is an attitute to play your best at all times).Â* Lisod gyud ang buhay na musikero.Â* Â* I can't imagine playing "Dancing Queen"Â* everynight and I refuse to play two chords R & B music - I cant even tell when the song would end,Â* cuz they all sound the sameÂ*

, that's why i have a day job (it's more bearable).Â* There are a lot of showbands &Â* indie bands but only a handful of bands like urban dub, dice & k9 who gets to do what they want and gets a nice paycheck for it.Â* Consider them as one of the fortunate few.Â*

"she"? Di ba laki ang manager sa Greyhoundz? Si Patrick Palumbarit?

I do not know of the latest developmentÂ*butÂ* I was there when greyhoundz was rehearsing in mandaue last year around august or september. Maybe they changed manager's already. "She" happens to be someone i personally know and went to her house in San Juan Metro Manila twice and spent hours talking to her and her husband. "She" personally called me on my cellphone,Â* when greyhoundz came to cebu so i went to see her. Im not a fan of Greyhoundz.Â* So I don't know if "patrick was or is the new manager". What I know is that at the time when Greyhoundz was in Cebu - "She" was their manager.Â* I took her and some of the crew to SM to do some shopping also.Â*
