Server RAID Configuration

Has anybody tried configuring RAID 10 with hot spare?

I've just finished setting up our Application server with RAID 10 configuration using four SCSI drives. I'm planning to add a 4th SCSI drive to be used as hot spare for the RAID 10 but im not sure if this would work.

Anybody who has been into this, please share something. Thanx.

Depending on your hardware setup but normally it should work. Some setups have dedicated and others have global hotspares.

What is your server HP/Compaq or IBM, if using this kind of servers im very sure it works.... but when using CLONE SERVER or DESKTOP SERVER im in doubt....

Its IBM. Ive configured RAID 5E before and the hot spare worked. Not just sure if it will work with RAID 10

I've used RAID10 before on Dell PowerEdge servers. During the setup you will be given a choice what RAID configuration you would like and RAID10 is one of the option. I guess it's because it's hardware RAID already support it. I'm sorry, I'm not familiar with IBM.

If your hardware does not support RAID 10, I'm not so sure but I think you can configure it using software RAID so it would support RIAD10. I think Solaris10 supports that.
