Lasers 'Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation' has been one of the major reason why our knowledge and advancements in optics and photonics have progressed unimaginably. It has found its applications to everyday portable devices that we use and to highly advanced experimental physics experiments such as Laser cooling down down to the nanokelvin regime, laser induced fusion, quantum key distribution in optical fiber networks, and many more.
As for somebody who is specializing in this, I find this very very interesting and news worthy to share to everyone. On of the most interesting properties of Lasers is its COHERENCE and high energy denstity. This has allowed many optical based measurement techniques to flourish. Sasers or Sound -ASERS which the article below describes works similarly like a Laser only the the output is SOUND and not light.

I forsee the finest stereo system ever created !" - one of the comments of the article.
