Hezbollah says, they will not free the hostages even if the whole world is against them. See how they think? THEY ARE TERRORIST. You cannot negotiate with the terrorist.

(1) should the US or the UN intervene now or later? US will intervene when israel tell them that hizbollah is a spent force, which is what US wants. or if US will give in to international pressure.
(2) should Israel consider a ceasefire to prevent escalation of the events? that's out of the question. hizbollah has already sophisticated weaponry like 100-mi range rockets and cruise missiles. it's a matter of israel survival. they'll probably agree to ceasefire when they destroyed most of those missiles together with much of hizbollah's manpower and arsenal. that way lebanon's army could gain control of southern lebanon
(3) should the Hezbollah consider now returning the Israeli hostage or risk more property damage from the airstrikes? they will never return them unless for some exchange. hizbollah will keep them alive because they're wothless to them dead. they are great bargaining chips.
