Be A Better You In 2012

Rate this Entry
Ever wanted to change yourself for the better, but didn't know how? Reinventing yourself to be a better person may be hard at first—after all, old habits (such as talking behind your friend's back) die hard. Plus, oftentimes when we fall off the wagon that is our New Year's resolutions, we feel it's useless to carry on.
But that doesn't mean we should give up. And what better time to try being the awesome young women we are supposed to be than this time of year? The trick to sticking with the promises we make is to not put too much pressure on ourselves. If we stumble, it's okay. Just get back on the horse and continue trotting on to making yourself a better babe this 2012!
Be a better friend. Admit it—you've backstabbed a friend or two. After all, we are living the era of Gossip Girl, and it seems second nature to rant about our friends behind their backs. The next time you find yourself having the urge to purge against a friend, take a second to think: would you like it if your friends talked behind your back? Will your rant really change anything? Won't your backbiting do more harm than good? It may seem hard at first, but learn to bite your tongue—and instead, confront the person face to face.
Give yourself to others. Doing good deeds makes you feel pretty darn good about yourself. And if you ask us, that makes philanthropy a win-win situation! You don't need to donate millions to charity (unless of course, you're an heiress!). Volunteering your time to a cause you believe in—such as helping out at the animal shelter—is just as awesome as a blank check with a Hilton signature.
Make the big change NOW. Have you been making yourself a promise that you'll one day clean out that jungle of a closet of yours? Or maybe you've been telling yourself that one of these days, you'll build up the courage to ask that cute guy from your Bio class. Stop talking about it and just do it. Big changes yield big results—and you'll never know what's at the end of the road unless you take the first few steps to get there!
Really save money. No, really. You might cringe at the word "budget", but it's amazing how much money is wasted on the "little things"— a cup of coffee, a meal at a burger joint, or even snacks at a movie theater. There's nothing wrong with enjoying these little perks…but there's also nothing wrong with saving for a rainy day. You don't have to be drastic and suddenly live the life of a pauper.
Start small: buy a cute insulated coffee container and bring your own coffee from home a few days a week. Pack your own lunch for school, and bring your own snacks the next time you catch a flick with your BFF. You'll be surprised with how much you'll save by the end of the week just by eliminating unnecessary expenses!
Eat healthier. No, just because a taco salad has the word "salad" in it does not make it healthy. If you're one of the many women who swear to start eating healthy "tomorrow", then chances are, you'll never start. Resolve to start eating healthy today, and tell yourself that every day. Of course, that doesn't mean you should skip the M&Ms. Have a small pack once a week as a reward for doing a good job in keeping your diet. Also, avoid following any diet fads. Drastic diets wherein you eliminate food groups are bad for your health, and you'll only gain all the weight back as soon as you stop the so-called-diet.
Try a new look. Always wanted a Katie Holmes-circa 2010 bob? Jonesin' to have your ears pierced? How about graduating from sneakers to some sensible heels? Now's the time to reinvent your look! This is the best time to experiment with different styles, and hey, if you don't like how it looks, you can always change it back!
Reevaluate your relationships. Do you find yourself stuck in a bad relationship? Are your parents always pointing out how some of your friends are a bad influence on you? It's time to take a step back and reevaluate your relationships. Maybe you started hanging out with the wrong crowd, or are having a hard time breaking free from an emotionally (or physically!) toxic relationship. Either way, resolve to weed out the bad people in your life. It may be hard, and there will be heartache, but better to feel bad now than suffer even more in the future.
