• Earth Hour 2015: Calyx Centre Goes Black to Go Green

Last Saturday night at 8:30 PM, Calyx Centre was in one with the rest of the world in the lights-off event to mark the 9th Earth Hour global movement.

Earth Hour 2015: Calyx Centre Goes Black to Go Green kicked off at 8:10 PM at the Calyx Centre Activity Hall with a brief program with the joined efforts of all the Calyx Centre outlets: Hikay, Serenitea, Sunburst, Eastwest Bank, Gusto, iCenter and 7 Eleven. Earth Hour videos were shown, trivia questions, prizes and glowing neon sticks were given to the audience.

Candles forming number 60 with a plus sign at the middle of the activity hall were then lit by 8:30 PM then the participating outlets worked hand in hand as they turned their lights off together with 62 other countries in the world.

The whole Calyx Centre may look bleak in the dark hour to many but the flickering light of the candles, the neon sticks and the soothing love songs provided by the Third String acoustic band gave the whole atmosphere a different kind of glow. It was purely magical and a new sense of serenity was in the midst of the huge crowd that night.

This is the second time Calyx Center participated in the Earth Hour movement to strengthen their brand as “a pillar in the eco-friendly construction community.” True enough, the Calyx Centre is the “first green, hybrid condominium in Cebu” with air, light, space, function and beauty – all these elements in sync with nature. This innovative concept of Innoland’s “flagship” project was made possible by the design of the architectural firm Aidea Phil., Inc., which is globally recognized as one of the top 100 in the world. The one-of-its-kind architectural design of Calyx Centre and Calyx Residences completed the entertainment and restaurant hub of the IT Park.

The Earth Hour celebration still continued even when the lights were turned on by 9:30 PM with all the guests in the participating outlets enjoying the good food and music with their family and friends.
John Wooden, a former basketball player-coach and mentor of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, once said, “It’s the little details that are vital. Little things make big things happen.” In that note, Calyx Centre’s GOING BLACK act started from small things by taking part in the lights-off annual movement with hope that it would be a great contribution to a GO GREEN world.

What about you? What did you do last Earth Hour celebration? How did you #useyourpower ?
