• Firozian Indian Tea House

Sometimes when you're off to one place and it just seems unavailable, you discover new places instead. This is how we discovered Firozian Indian Tea House. The kids and I were off to Army Navy since it was near the house. It was full thus we opted to go somewhere else.

Establishment Name: Firozian Indian Tea House
Location- J. Avila Street, Cebu City
Landmark: Cebu Doctors' Hospital and Chicken Tagala

Price range for rice meals P120 to P150
Snacks price range from P50 to P100
Desserts price range from P40 to P65
      Tea/coffee single P40 to P50 pot P80 to P90
Cold drinks price range P30 to P70

Upon entering, one is greeted by a cozy ambiance and if by chance the owner is not busy in the kitchen, he would also be there to welcome you and tell you the benefits of sitting in a lotus position while eating.

We ordered almost everything that was available on the menu. From snacks that we ate as appetizers to main meals to dessert.

For appetizer, we ordered the samosa which is the indian version of our empanada less the raisins & egg. It is a fried pastry filled with potatoes, onions & peas.

      Durum

I ordered durum which is a big version of shawarma. The durum can be halved to feed two people. But if you are very hungry then it can surely fill you up. Durum is a big shawarma, fiilled with meat, onions, tomatoes, salad & yogurt. This is under the snack section but can also be a filling meal.

      Kebab wrap

I also ordered kebab wrap which is a smaller version of the durum. Kebab wrap which is a quick & healthy meal with grilled chicken sticks in flat bread & yogurt sauce. Both are very delicious and are worth every peso.

Rotti, Durum, Indian Chai Milk Tea, Buttered Chicken

Rice meals for the main dish. The kids ordered buttered chicken. It is not your usual Filipino idea of butter chicken. It is saucy and tasty plus most importantly, it's kid-approved!

The other dishes that we ordered:
Aloo keema, made of potatoes, ground meat & spices. Chef's suggestion is to enjoy this dish with a cold drink or beer. This was paired with a lassi. Hubby ordered Chicken masala also known as chicken tikka masala. Though this is best with beer, hubby paired this with rose water which has quite a distinctive taste.

      Aloo paratha

Aloo paratha is a flat bread stuffed with potatoes and a bowl of yogurt.
Aloo gobi is made of potatoes & cauliflower w/ yogurt topping.

Tarka dal is made with chick peas, red lentils, onions & garlic - soup or gravy style. This is good with roti. All of the rice meals can be roti meals, roti is served instead of rice and the level of spiciness can be adjusted according to your preference.

      Aloo Gobi

My youngest, who is quite picky with his drinks, loves their Indian milk tea. He was enchanted with the way it was served, as Firoze (the owner) would say, it is served the traditional way. We ordered lassi, a yogurt based drink, you can have the plain one or the flavored one. Ask for the available lassi flavors of the day. Turkish coffee is also served with a fortune telling session if requested. Schedule for the fortune telling is from Monday to Sunday 1-6pm.

Kid-approved! My youngest with his rose water

For dessert we ordered Rasgulla, baklava, Gulab jamun which has a dough-like consistency rolled into a ball and is sweet. Besan laddu is a Polvoron-like ball. Yogurt comes in plain & flavored, ask for the available flavor from the servers. They also sell 1 kilo plain yogurt for P130.

      The place has free wi-fi.

One can also play a game of chess while waiting for the meal to be served.

      Our Kids love it here.

      Here's our verdict:
      Food/taste 5/5
      Price 5/5
      Ambiance/environment 5/5
      Service 5/5

One could say that this is one if those hole in the walls that you would keep on coming back to. We do.

Chicken biryani is not the original type. too much of curry. rice taste sucks more like the NFA rice. I don't think they're using the Authentic Indian Basmati rice as the taste is totally different from what I tasted when I was in the Middle East.

They use Philippine rice for their P180 Chicken Biryani. But you can also request for Basmati rice if you want. That's what we did before

it would be nice if they offer the same in the middle east as unlimited rice. Sa Middle East...I only pay something like 120pesos in our currency but unlimited rice na nya Indian Basmati Rice pa gyud.
