mga sir, pwede ko mangayo ug advise kay plano nako mag tukod ug internet caffe nga diskless, meaning naay server, asa ta ka palit ug server unit kanang ready to run na nya kanag maka cater ug 10 pc maximum..

I wish I can help, OBM man to ako server before..., taya nako ^_^
for the hardware, if you are able to afford, buy Intel based LAN on the Motherboard, if realtek, then palit lang Intel LAN card.
better if all are ssd's imo gamiton sab. atleast 3 of them.
for the RAM, it will be MINIMUM 16Gb, if can afford more, the better.
for the processor, latest pentium will suffice. if can do i3 or better, then fine.
don't forget..., the gigabit switches!!!.
for ethernet cable, cat5e will suffice, kung kaya cat 6, a-ok, (if you buy cheap ethernet cables, you may have headaches later on, but this is subjective and your luck.)

also..., in diskless..., 10 maximum you said is too small for clients, the above specs can cater 20's + or even to 40's or 60's... just proper segregation, allotment, division of LAN cards.

ready to run as is lang ang server. dili as diskless server inigpalit nimo from the stores. dili na siya ready to run as diskless server kay need pa na tagsa tagsaon og setup ang clients para mogana na siya. After nimo palit sa computer para server anha na na isetup if complete na imong clients og kuyog na sila setup sa clients to fit your need.

boss kung akoy pasultion nmo ayaw nlng pag diskless kung di ka ganahan ma useless..lol
diskless user ko boss pero balik naho traditional..walay hinungdan diskless for many reasons..
maglabad ra imo ulo..kung nakabantay kas extension sa oriental sa merkado wla nana makadiskless kay subok na nila
lahi jud ang performance if naa cyay kaugalingon os..trust me

ug nganong 'useless' man ang "diskless"? ^_^

'walay hinungdan diskless for many reasons'..., grabe..., for many reasons man gyud...

ug nganong maglabad man imo ulo sa diskless brader?, kasagaran labad ani niya kai sa newbie D.I.Y. installation raman, after ana, hanoy na... (ang labad) I mean, no more problems.

Usa ka sa mga bati ug experience sa diskless... too bad...



Anyways, ang ako ra gyud makita nga "CONs" sa diskless is that it is only limited to the network speed which is 1Gb.


If a "properly" configured diskless server for less than 20 clients vs 1 normal pc with a regular mechanical spinning hard drive, ma-o2x ra ila performance.

pero... 1 single normal pc with even the lowest based sata SSD will be indeed far superior with what diskless can provide.


in the end, if I have 20 units or more, I will still chose diskless because of its ease of use, lesser patching, lesser installation, uniformity on all units, easy scalability and the list goes on and on.

kung happy ka sa manual patching of your games then fine, kung asa ka happy, adto gyud ka ^_^

Why there were even a need to do something like that really ? Last poster clearly made it very clear. I couldn't understand initial topic starter so couldn't see any point in this really. I have 1GBps connection via fiber link and I am not diskless Or by diskless there are some main server without any hard/ssd ?

This is all about Internet Cafe setup where your units (desktop computer) are literally WITHOUT harddisk(s), hence, DISKLESS.
One major aim for this so called Diskless technique is to lessen the dreaded install/updates/changes where you only need to update only 1 unit and others will get the updates/etc. So, if you have 30units, then you only need to update/install/configure 1computer and the rest will have the same thing afterwards, compared to manually doing the update/install/etc on each unit.

i guess im too old for this shit, but diskless you guys mean like a thin client, but for gaming? or it would be like one CPU, multi user?
