Hong Kong – It was the start of the new school year in China when a horrifying attack by a man at a primary school ended in 3 deaths and 6 injured on Monday.
Three pupils were reportedly stabbed and killed at Dongfang Primary School in Hubei province while six others were hospitalized due to injuries caused by a man who, according to initial investigation, went amok after his daughter was refused registration for not completing her summer homework. The man then jumped to his death off a building, as reported by state media. He died on the spot. The attack took place in Yunxi county, in the administrative region of Shiyan city. The attacker was identified only by his surname Chen. He reportedly broke into the school around 10:20 a.m., but it wasn’t immediately clear how Chen got into the school campus, said Xinhua news agency, citing the local government.
Chen, wielding a knife, stabbed eight students and a teacher which led to three of them being fatally killed. The students and the teacher were immediately brought to hospital, where three of them succumbed to injury. Two of the students remain seriously hurt, reports disclosed. Monday was the first day back at school after the summer vacation for most students in China. The police are still conducting an investigation into the case.
