143-LORD.
A month ago, I saw this old man at Sto. Tomas de Villanueva Church standing near the jeepney stop with the aide of his cane and calling out to PUJ drivers. He was waving something in his free hand and when I saw that it was this little box, which he made himself:I realized it was where the drivers usually put the coins.
My heart felt heavy. I wondered where his family was and how come he was the one selling these boxes at night time. I promised myself that the next time I saw him, I will help him by buying it.
Tonight, when me and my sister were on our way home... I saw him again. He was trying to sell one of the coin boxes to the driver of the PUJ that we were in. It's really dangerous for him because he stands so near the jeepney, if the driver wasnt careful, he could be run over.
We reached Jollibee, was about to be home when there was a voice inside my head to go back and help Lolo. So me and Donna rode another PUJ, this time, going to Pardo Church. I was praying and hoping that Lolo would still be there.
He was. We approached him and asked him how much were the coin boxes. He said it ranges from 35-45 pesos. I told him I would buy one, so that he can go home and have his dinner. I gave him 100 pesos.
He smiled, was teary-eyed and thanked us. He said the he was so touched and glad that there was someone who was worried about it. He kept saying that he couldnt repay us, and that God will be the one to reward us. He made the sign of the cross over the air.
I was holding back my tears. I asked him where his family was, he said his wife died years ago and his children had families of their own. He couldnt depend on them to feed and take care of him since they too had too many mouths to feed.
I know that the money I paid wouldnt be enough, that it wont last long...
Friends, lets help Lolo Herardo Reyes. Lets help him sell these coin boxes.
Thank you.
