to solve this issue of yours...
go to "Settings" -> "Language & Input"
under "KEYBOARD & INPUT METHODS", press "Default" (the default is Android keyboard)
you will then have a selection of 3 different inputs (if you have not installed any other keyboards) and chose "TouchPal Keyboard V5"
after this, go back or go to your default Android Messaging and try to create a new message, by the time you input a text..., you will be prompted for the new settings for "TouchPal Keyboard", you can select the default settings (as what I did).

With this, you will have a typical easy to handle one handed keyboard in portrait mode (although I can't say its 3x4) and while the landscape mode is still the same old qwerty layout.

na-a paman daghan units sa flare bro and not that extinct..., if you look for one gyud, kita man gani kog flare units sa Toledo around maybe more than 15units being displayed!

not rooted bro, the unit is being used by my wife, stock ra gamit, only the basic is only needed and nothing more (as for now).

rooting is advisable only if you really need to AND YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING!, if you need to install applications that needs 'root', then you need to do root it.

Sadly NO! , go for flare if you have the chance.

I think the only inferior of the burst are:
-> camera (I thought its autofocus or my unit is busted)
-> .2Ghz lesser than that of flare

other than that, I believe they are similarly super close.
