I think at this point the real contest is ARGO vs LES MISERABLES vs LINCOLN, whichever movie will win BP will usually win Best Director.

Fair point. But so far, based on the results of the Golden Globes and Critics' Choice Awards, it looks like the fight is with Argo, Lincoln, and Silver Linings Playbook. But Life of Pi, Zero Dark Thirty, and Beasts of the Southern Wild are making a lot of buzz recently.

Zero Dark has currently created a controversy surrounding the torture scene, and it could be a gimmick to push its Oscar chances. Honestly, I thought that movie was really good but it seemed like it needed to cut around 30 minutes to make it tighter, not that it matters. Given the fact that Kathryn Bigelow recently won for Hurt Locker, chances are she won't win for director and so will her movie.

Beasts is like 2010's Winter's Bone or 2009's Precious or 2008's Milk or 2007's Juno or 2006's Little Miss Sunshine, a Sundance/indie film favorite which usually doesn't win the the big thing. I hated this movie. haha

Ang Lee's Life of Pi is considered a visual spectacle and not as the real serious thing (no major nominations except BP). Lee is also not that prominent in the Oscar's political circle.

Silver Linings is a complicated comedy which the Oscars will not give enough respect. haha.

Argo will win best picture to appease Ben Afflecks snub for director. Argo has a lot of momentum going from Afllecks win at the Golden Globes. Voters who would've voted for Affleck as director will vote for Argo as best picture instead. One of the lesser know directors (Amour or Beasts...) will win that category. Actor is a no brainer. It'll go to Daniel Day Lewis. Actress I'll go with Chastain although this might be the surprise category and go to Lawrence or Riva. Supporting is a no brainer also, Waltz and Hathaway.
