how many years? it's been decades that our people relied on our justice system.. and with that span of time, i bet not a lot of innocents have been killed unless of course when it was the time of Marcos that activists are on the loose---->which i think is way too different than the vigilantes style killings..Originally Posted by n`gel

Bry. officials say IBP left public ‘hanging’ on killers’ identity
INSTEAD of leaving the public hanging, Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) Cebu City officials should divulge the names of vigilantes responsible for a spate of killings.
This was the challenge raised yesterday by officials of Barangay Pahina Central, Cebu City.
The officials said that after lawyer Alex Tolentino announced that the IBP knows “six to eight men” behind the vigilante-style attacks that began in Cebu City in late 2004, no one was unmasked and brought to court.
“(We) are left hanging as to the identities of the vigilantes and their mastermind, as proper charges may be filed against them,” they said.
Led by Barangay Captain Sisinio Andales, a lawyer himself, the officials said the matter is of public interest so the IBP should reveal the names of the persons behind the extrajudicial killings.
In a resolution, the barangay council said it hoped Tolentino’s announcement “is not a mere fairy-tale story or tele-series novel, wherein everybody would have to wait for the continuation of the story, and (in the process, hold) the public in suspense.”
“We have names, their addresses, how many there are, who their mastermind is,” Tolentino said when he made his announcement last Aug. 29.
For the better of all . DOnt ISOLATE yourself and ideas just bcause you are not a victim . Its like the last resort , so go people REALITY CHECK what is Cebu . As long as there are soltuions to the problems , the need of the V's is obsolete but there are no solutions but assumptions .

here's IBPs response

IBP to skeptics: wait for expose
CEBU CITY -- Lawyer Alex Tolentino, Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) Cebu City Chapter president, knows something most people don't, but he isn't sharing the information. Not just yet, anyway.
"Please, just wait. I'm not bluffing. I'm a lawyer, not a poker player," he told Sun.Star Cebu in an interview Monday.
That was his response to a resolution from the Barangay Council of Pahina Central, Cebu City, which asked the IBP to reveal the names of those behind the summary executions that have hit Cebu City's streets since late 2004. At least 168 people have been killed so far.
Another man was gunned down by motorcycle-riding killers at the port area, bringing to two the number of victims killed in as many days.
Police investigators, however, said the attacks on trisikad driver Ritz M. Calero, 26, and taxi dispatcher Louiesito M. Solon, 43, could not be considered the handiwork of vigilantes.
LOLZ .... TOlentino should just have kept mum till they are ready for the EXPOSURE , nahug nuon na murag komiks kay naay " ITUTULOY " ug " ABANGAN " .

basing si George Dubya Bush ilang pasanginlan... hehehehehe
.. hahayz, he is like that sitcom of abs cbn.. ABANGAN ANG SUSUNOD NA KABANATA . For crying out loud, IBP should stop making claims and start presenting the names. IF they have them.
... Tolentino is not only going after vigilantes themselves but radio announcers who are pro vigilantes as well ...

Tomas suspects IBP motives on vigilantes
CEBU City Mayor Tomas Osmeña yesterday challenged the public to think whether or not the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) officials are sincere in running after the so-called vigilantes.
“Are they really concerned about the public or they just care about their livelihood? I want the public to realize that,” he told a press conference.
The mayor reiterated his demand for IBP Cebu City Chapter president Alex Tolentino to support his claim that some IBP officials already know the names of six to eight persons behind the killings.
“If you are a lawyer and you make accusations, it is only fair that you document it,” said the mayor, who earlier commented he felt alluded to by Tolentino.
Tolentino has asked for two weeks to prepare the case against the vigilantes, saying he was not bluffing when he said he would divulge their names.
Tolentino refused to comment on Osmeña’s statement that they are “siding with criminals” and that he should stop acting like a propaganda machine.
Since late December 2004, at least 168 suspected or convicted criminals have been gunned down in Cebu City. Officials of the church and human rights advocates have warned against the trend.
The barangay council of Pahina Central in Cebu City has asked, through a resolution, the IBP not to leave the public hanging by failing to follow through with its revelation.
The council, led by Barangay Captain Sisinio Andales, said the relatives and families of victims need the identities of the vigilantes so they could file criminal complaints.
Osmeña, for his part, criticized lawyer Gloria Lastimosa-Dalawampu, who acts as the legal counsel of the suspects in the Mandaue City shabu laboratory case and the Land Bank-Bogo branch robbery.
“I’m only asking a question. Maybe that’s why she hates the vigilantes so much, kay nawala gyud iyang mga clients (because she’s losing clients),” the mayor said.
