Japan gets 450Mbps Wi-Fi dongle courtesy of Logitec by VR-Zone.com
As Wi-Fi is evolving we've now hit speeds of 450Mbps, but to date you've been pretty much limited to using notebooks with a select choice of mini PCI Express cards to be able to reach those kinds of speeds. Now it seems like the first 450Mbps USB dongles are starting to appear and although we've seen a product from Trendnet already, it's not as small and portable as the latest model from Japanese Logitec.
Do note that Logitec shouldn't be confused with Logitech which is called Logicool in Japan. The relatively small dongle, called the LAN-W450AN/U2 supports both the 2.4 and 5GHz bands and it has a small flip-up style antenna. It also comes with a USB extension for desktop systems where it might be hard to plug in otherwise.
There really isn't much else to say about it, but we're expecting other manufacturers to be close behind Logitec with their own 450Mbps dongles, especially once the router install base grows. Currently there are only a handful of 450Mbps routers in the market, but we should be seeing several new models before the end of the year. The LAN-W450AN/U2 retails for a not insignificant 4,980 Yen (S$82) in Japan which is quite a lot of money considering you'd most likely have to splash out on a suitable router to go with it as well.
