Itsy bitsy bikinis in shows a huge affront: CCAIB
THOSE who watch beauty pageants held in Cebu City can no longer expect to see bikini-clad candidates, if the Cebu City Anti-Indecency Board (CCAIB) gets its way.
The board is awaiting the mayor’s approval of a ban on wearing two-piece swimwear during beauty pageants, Miss Gay competitions, and similar events.
“The board finds it inappropriate for contestants to wear two-piece swimwear on stage and in front of a live audience,” the CCAIB said in a resolution.
Instead of candidates wearing swimwear, CCAIB wants event organizers to allow only sportswear in beauty pageants, the same policy being applied in the annual Miss Cebu, which is held during the Sinulog celebration.
“CCAIB is inclined to concur (with the policy of Miss Cebu) and implement this city-wide, and further prohibit the use of skimpy swimwear for male and female contestants,” the board said.
For CAIB, the proper garments during beauty competitions “must not be see-through, wet look nor silhouetted.”
However, CCAIB said leniency will be extended “on a case to case basis”, particularly if the location of the beauty competition will be near a swimming pool or on the beach.
For the implementation of the new policy, CCAIB is urging all 80 barangays of the city to help them monitor all beauty pageants in their villages.
“We urge all barangays through the barangay officials to help curb indecency by actively participating in the proper monitoring of beauty pageants, Miss Gay competitions and the like,” they said.
CCAIB also told the event organizers to coordinate with them and with the barangays before the actual show, for the evaluation and review of their compliance with permits, such as the barangay clearance, among others.
The resolution prohibiting the candidates in beauty pageants to wear two-piece swimwear was approved by the board during their regular meeting last Wednesday.
It was submitted to Mayor Michael Rama for his signature, if he approves.
