How to play .mkv files on iTouch

Is there any free app that can play .mkv files on my iTouch. I'm using an iTouch 3rd Gen. I like to watch TV series while on travel. I want to transfer this files straight to my iTouch without converting it to apple formats like mp4.

I've seen apps that can do it like AVplayer and Goodplayer but it's not free. Is there any free apps that can do this? Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Try VLC player app bro or better yet jailbreak your itouch and wallah all free..enjoy!

I was able to jailbreak it using greenpoison and was able to install appsync 4 and installous 4 but when I install crack apps like buzz player, good player, oplayer, it gives me an invalid ipa error. Trust me guys I did my homework already, I just can't install this crack apps because of the error. ANyone got this player that I mentioned successfully installed on there iPhone or iTouch?

No more VLC. Only VLC Streamer and VLC Remote.In which you need to install a VLC helper in your PC/Mac to wirelessly stream on your Apple device. There's a free app for you to try.
GoodPlayer- does not need converting or streaming just download the app. $2.99 (have not tried it)
OpenPlayer-Transfer mkv files over wi-fi and it can be saved. No converting needed. There's a Free App. (downside is sometimes the sound lags).
Or convert it thru Miro in your PC. I tried and failed. The movie quality is clear but the sound lags. Like one of them old kung-fu movies that the mouth moves ahead of what the person is saying. Still have to try other movies to convert.
I'm not familiar if Cydia App store has free apps for JB'd iTouch.
