Default Does your family know you are an Atheist?

Hey guys, it's my first time posting in this section.

So, I would like to know about istoryans who are atheists if your family knows that you're a non believer?

We know that the Philippine society's too judgmental when it comes to this thing. That once you don't believe in God, you are often judged as a worshipper of the demon, which isn't true. We were influenced by the spanish that the family's an important institution and that a family should be religious.

I've been an atheist for a long time now. And my father suspects whether I still have a God or what? But I think he knows I'm an atheist coz I don't go with him in the church anymore. I was a believer back then, by the way.

I just don't have the courage to tell him directly that I am a nonbeliever. And I also have personal reasons why I choose this path of critical, free thinking, rather than choosing the path of faith and believing in some worthless invisible beings.

As long as I do good, that's what matters most. As long as I abide the law and avoid doing bad I guess that makes a difference! Religious people do bad too! Bottomline is, we're only human.

How bout others? Are you an atheist in hiding? Does your family know about your being atheist? How would you deal with it? Will you remain as closet atheists rather than telling them you are a non believer?

I would love to read your experiences. Believers are welcome too, and put yourself in a situation of being an atheist and how would you handle it.

Religion and Atheism are not an issue in my family...."honesty is our policy"

Yes. After they told me to keep it to myself, the topic has never been brought up again.

Which I think for me, is better than being forced to change.

TS, i don't knoww about you, man, but you are more of an anti-christian (not necessarily anti-christ) than an atheist....

anyway, on topic....this is not an issue for me....BUT, we have the same line:
I just don't have the courage to tell him directly that I am a nonbeliever.
out of respect, i still go to church when needed...those are funeral, birthday, a once-in-a-while sunday, pista, etc.....but not to ask for something or to pray....but out of huge respect to my parents/relatives/family......

    question lang TS..
Atheism is basically rejection of anything -diety or being- of that sort exists and is a higher being that controls all of us or controls you.. If you say that you are an atheist, why are you afraid to tell your father?
Unsa man imong gi ka hadlokan?

Athiests have no fear of anything or anyone as no one controls them and no one is "higher" than them..

I admit.. I'm not very religious..the number of religious things I do can be counted with the number of left hands I have.. which is obviously just 1.. I believe in God..
and as much as I would like to follow the church's teachings.. there are a couple of things I do not agree or disagree with necessarily but the main thing is.. I don't consider myself an atheist..
I believe there is a god and I have a direct line to him.. He rewards all good things I do and gives me trials that make me believe in him more..
The difficulties that you are given in your life are given for you not to believe or not believe if a god exists.. but is really a tool to know how strong you are and helps you find the right place for you in this life..

so if you are an atheist, I would think that you would not be afraid to tell anyone because you don't believe there is a god who is higher than man.. and you do not believe that your father is higher than you.. and the kind of respect you give him should not be higher only because he is your father.. but atheists just do not believe in any type of social and spiritual ladder...

    la lang.. char2x lang hehe

so it's a matter of pleasing your family? is that it?

i might seem as an anti-christ but i'm militant. there's no point of sayin I'm anti-christ coz in the first place i don't believe there's christ.
