Hey guys, it's my first time posting in this section.
So, I would like to know about istoryans who are atheists if your family knows that you're a non believer?
We know that the Philippine society's too judgmental when it comes to this thing. That once you don't believe in God, you are often judged as a worshipper of the demon, which isn't true. We were influenced by the spanish that the family's an important institution and that a family should be religious.
I've been an atheist for a long time now. And my father suspects whether I still have a God or what? But I think he knows I'm an atheist coz I don't go with him in the church anymore. I was a believer back then, by the way.
I just don't have the courage to tell him directly that I am a nonbeliever. And I also have personal reasons why I choose this path of critical, free thinking, rather than choosing the path of faith and believing in some worthless invisible beings.
As long as I do good, that's what matters most. As long as I abide the law and avoid doing bad I guess that makes a difference! Religious people do bad too! Bottomline is, we're only human.
How bout others? Are you an atheist in hiding? Does your family know about your being atheist? How would you deal with it? Will you remain as closet atheists rather than telling them you are a non believer?
I would love to read your experiences. Believers are welcome too, and put yourself in a situation of being an atheist and how would you handle it.
