i've been thinking about this question for quite a long time already and i want to hear your thoughts on this issue...would it really help if we found the cure for this dreaded disease?

First of all, you have to understand that HIV isn't contracted only through sexual intercourse. There are several other ways that a person can be infected with. For example:
- Being “stuck” with an HIV-contaminated needle or other sharp object.
- Receiving blood transfusions, blood products, or organ/tissue transplants that are contaminated with HIV.
- HIV may also be transmitted through unsafe or unsanitary injections or other medical or dental practices.
- Eating food that has been pre-chewed by an HIV-infected person. The contamination occurs when infected blood from a caregiver’s mouth mixes with food while chewing.
- Being bitten by a person with HIV. Although, each of the very small number of cases has included severe trauma with extensive tissue damage and the presence of blood.
- Contact between broken skin, wounds, or mucous membranes and HIV-infected blood or blood-contaminated body fluids.
- Tattooing or body piercing present a potential risk of HIV transmission, but no cases of HIV transmission from these activities have been documented. Only sterile equipment should be used for tattooing or body piercing.
- Perinatal Transmission - the transmission of the virus from the mother to the child during the last weeks of pregnancy and at childbirth.
I'd say finding the cure to AIDS would definitely stop this pandemic in its tracks. As for your question, it depends. It depends on the availability of this drug to the general public. But with this kind of drug, I'm pretty sure it would be signed under prescription (or regulated) drugs rather than just an Over-The-Counter drug.
