Default Sun Broadband Using Lossy Image Compression as of 06/27/2011

Just Noticed that after PLDT Acquired Sun, Sun wireless broadband is now using lossy image compression on almost all images on websites.

This is a move to reduce bandwidth consumption but this affects their quality of service, they go for quantity not quality

I would post a snapshot comparison of a website accesed thru sun and the same website accessed thru another provider. to really see the difference

This are the snapshots using sun broadband's very own website Sun Broadband

Note: that when using sun broadband to view the image comparison, both images may look similar this is obviously due to sun re-compressing both snapshot images.

    [Accessed thru sun]

    [Accessed thru another provider]

[Accessed thru sun, annotated to help spot the difference]

This is unfair to all sun users,
we paid good money to Sun in return we get <100% image quality.
and image quality is everything in the web,
imagine viewing facebook pics with pixelated images due to lossy compression.
and this would be a nightmare for web developers using sun as their internet connection.

Capping our connection speed to 512kbps during the day might seem reasonable for fair usage policy, but this image compression is just unacceptable

we should have a signature campaign against this !

user agent ra na bro... ilara lang gud ang Sun hahaha... use Firefox then install this plugin - User Agent Switcher after ka maka-install ana, adto sa settings sa User Agent Switcher (Tools>User Agent Switcher) nya paghimo og new agent and name is as blaze 4.0

that's it... you're good to go

kakatawag ko lang sa sbw tech supp.. sabi nila ndi na daw nila covered ang mga ganitong instances, sabi pa nya gamit nalang daw ng ibang browsers and she can't help us anymore parang dead end.... but i saw a work around from a blog, just use a user agent add-on for ff (if ur into ff), then select Googlebot 2.1 as the user agent...

i also experienced this issue nung globe 3g pa ako way back 2007-2008, when i was in davao, and they really justified na compressed ung images para hindi gaanong bandwidth ang magagamit plus nag loload ang images ng mas madali..
