Default MS Vista and Office 2007 Packaging

Microsoft Packaging for Vista and Office 2007 revealed..

Microsoft, planning to lure you into using Windows Vista and Office 2007 for the rest of your life, today reveals the packaging for the upcoming products, going with a rounded design reminiscent of a 1950s toaster. Let's let the Microsoftians damn us with their faint prose:

Designed to be user-friendly, the new packaging is a small, hard, plastic container that's designed to protect the software inside for life-long use. It provides a convenient and attractive place for you to permanently store both discs and documentation. The new design will provide the strength, dimensional stability and impact resistance required when packaging software today. Our plan is to extend this packaging style to other Microsoft products after the launch of Windows Vista and 2007 Office system.
Well, the statement sounds like a joke, but regardless, the packaging works well and personally it suits my taste. It does look nice, really.

    ^^
Suggested Retail Price (in USD) for retail versions of Vista:

    -Vista Home (Full $199/Upgrade $99)
    -Vista Home Premium ($239/$159)
    -Vista Business ($299/$199)
    -Vista Ultimate ($399/$259)

If you're really planning to pay for Vista, go get the OEM versions and not the more expensive retail versions. An OEM license usually is only available if you purchase a new system with it, but MS will also allow you to buy an OEM copy if you buy a piece of hardware (essential to an operation of a computer) together with it (eg. Motherboard, RAM, hard drive, Power Supply, even a mouse).

I thought it comes only in a single DVD disk ... installation will vary only according to your key?

1 single DVD? Hmmmm. All I know is that there won't be a different media for a 32bit and 64bit edition anymore. That DVD media of the Vista edition you purchased will have all the files it needs to install on either a 32bit or 64bit machine.

Maybe the 1 DVD you're taking bout is the one for System Builders. They can create an image using a copy of Windows Vista Ultimate, then once that image is deployed to the customer's PC using the OPK tools, it's the key that the customer purchased will unlock to it's corresponding edition. --Im not so sure bout this yet though

Here's how the DVD case opens btw....

No wonder Vista got delayed so many times. I bet a lot of development time went into packaging.
