Just curious, how many of us here make a distinction between an American and a Japanese Akita?

mao ask ko u last time pag kita nato kon asay naa diwe nga japanese akita...
even the PCCI don't even distinguish between the two types
all that's written is Akita sa papers
another question...unsa diay gigamit nga standard for show competitions? kay bisag unsaon, naa man gyud silay kalainan... unya kasagaran sa nangapil dog show kay American akitas man

Japanese Akita! Hachiko. The best!
The first Akita that I've seen, was in the movie Hachiko which is a Japanese Akita. That was also the time that I got interested with the breed itself and somehow learned that there is also what they call an American Akita. Without digging on the differences, I can honestly say that all of the Akitas that I've seen in person are American Akitas even if the owner claims it to be a Japanese Akita. I have seen videos of white Japanese Akita and indeed, It has the likeness of the Red/White Akita, except that it lacks the red color. I have also seen White Akitas in Cebu that kind of got me confused, whether or not it is a Japanese Akita, since it looked different from what I've seen in the videos.
So I got into reading about the breed and understood the fact that they share the same ancestry, which could be the reason that the U.S. and CANADA considers them as one breed that differs on the type and not a separate breed at all. Which made sense to me although it still got me into researching about the difference because of the fact that some would still claim to have the Japanese type although their dog is an American type.
The basic difference is the Size and the Color. We can probably consider the Japanese Akita as the pure type while the American Akita is somehow a mix due to the the fact that it has been mixed with the Tosa Inu and etc. The American Akita has a massive head while the Japanese Akita has the likeness of it's cousin, the Shiba Inu. Perhaps a mix between the Japanese and American Akita has contributed to the confusion.
Below are some pictures that I have collected to somehow compare the difference between the two types.
Here's a video that demonstrates the difference of the two types:

" I am Catholic but because i am convinced "
by the way the primary intention of this thread
is not for us to shout out which of the two is better, <although you may>
the thread is more on informing us that there are two types of Akita
Naay saying nga "If it's not an Akita it's just a dog" hehe
