Default U.S. Jobs Outsourcing in Asia

There was a time after the Democratic administration (Clinton/Gore) era ended and replaced with Republicans in office (Bush) that IT jobs in the U.S. had taken a downward turn. It was also because of the labor force and unemployment rate soared up due to changes in the economy and transition. A lot of IT jobs and IT workers had suffered either due to closures, mergers and layoffs. I had some friends who were on working visa status in the IT field that also got affected and practically lost their jobs. The trend now in IT is towards a more specialized field. Almost every household in America owns more than one computer and because of that, people have the know-how and skills in computers which makes the IT manpower less in demand unless you have a more specialized field of study in IT. Some of these firms have shipped their jobs outside of U.S. India and the Philippines for instance. They figured that the labor market in Asia is cheaper if they oursourced rather than keep manpower here in the U.S. hence the transfer of call centers and the less specialized fields in IT outside of U.S. I'm sure some of you are in that situation wherein you work in the Philippines and your employer is in the U.S. Its a big cost savings for these companies. If you are one of these workers, is the going pay rate in the Philippines comparable to that in the U.S. more or less ?

Outsourcing do really help a lot in the Philippines... It is estimated that by 2010 there would be around 2 milliion Filipinos who will be working in the Outsourcing Industry, this includes call centers, medical and legal transcription, animation, engineering, accounting, software development, publishing, and other non core processes.

With regards to compensation, it actually depends on what field you are in. An employee could earn from P10K a month to as much as P70k.

Also this prompted an uptake on the real estate industry, as more BPO companies are looking for new spaces to set up their business.

Currently, the US is the biggest outsource provider in the Philippines.

Its really great! One time i had to call Earthlink and I was connected to someone for a tech problem. Then later on as I was talking to this guy, he commented about the background music i had morag i was playing True Faith. Only then i realized pinoy pala yung kausap ko kasi wow! very impressive kaayo sila mo english ang galing you can never even tell sometimes if they're Pinoy. He told me he was working out of Eartlink's call center in Cebu. So i really think that its great they're sending those jobs back home in the Philippines.

It hurts competition inside US, labor expense is saved tremendously. I don't know about unemployment rate here but if too many companies outsource jobs... can it hurt our workers here too?
