(WARNING: Long post. Only for people with 10 minutes to burn.)
Hi all.
I've been really itching to get my hands on an iPhone 4.
I need to know if I'll be making the right decision if I do decide to get one.
Here are some facts that might help you help me.

-I'm not really into pricey phones. I don't care much for the "phone" features of the iPhone (call, text).
-(But) I only have 1 phone with me (6 yr old cheapo Nokia) and I've accepted the fact that sooner or later I'm gonna have to get a new one, when the input, batt or charger for this one eventually dies, that's why I'm in the market for a new phone right now.
-Aside from that, I've been meaning to get an ultra portable net access device. I'm actually looking around for a netbook or an ultra light notebook. I'm a heavy surfer and 27/4 internet access is really an appealing thought. My apprehension with getting a netbook is that it still might not fulfill the promise of net access on demand, on places with no available wifi for example, or because realistically, even though the device might be light and small, I still can't take it anywhere with me, for practical reasons.
-I like to play video games, but just don't have the time. My expensive videocard is currently getting only some Dota replay action for the most part of the year because I can't invest more than a day to finish any single player campaign. I'm looking for a mobile gaming outlet. I'm also a movie junkie and I want to bring with me a backlog of movies I still haven't gotten around to see because of lack time.
-Basically I'm looking for an all-in-one mobile toy right now.
1. Must have internet access (wifi+3g preferable).
2. Must play videos, play games.
3. Must last the whole day on a single charge.
4. Must be very portable.
5. That it doubles as a phone is a bonus, because I don't want to be putting my gadget in one pocket, and carrying a service phone in the other pocket.
6. That it has a camera is also a bonus. Its a nice feature that I can live without.
-I've set my eyes on the iPhone 4 in particular because
1. I want to explore the thousands of apps available for the iPhone.
2. Its a new phone. If I'm gonna get a new one might as well go for the latest model. I figure if I decide to dispose of it in a few months, I can still do so easily because it will still be on high demand.
3. I'm drooling over the high resolution screen. I imagine it'll be good enough for movie viewing, but I can't really be sure cause I haven't tried it yet.
4. I've played around with a friend's iPod Touch and even though I'm a hardcore gamer I can totally see myself getting lost playing iPhone games. The accelerometer and the gyroscope makes it even more impressive.
5. Its got a decent camera and shoots 720p video.
-Other possible purchases in mind include - HDTV, audio setup, console.
With those things in mind I want to ask the following questions.
1. Should I get a pricey mobile gadget that I can have with me all the time, or am I better off getting an expensive entertainment system that I get to play with when I have the time. Other ideas? So basically this is the "If I really wanted to spend 50k and eat munggos for the rest of the year, what toy should I grab to get the most of it?" question.
2. Is the iPhone 4 the right device for me? Will it give me the best (mobile) experience among the different options available for the features I am looking for? If not the iPhone, can you suggest other devices I should look into? iPad? iPod Touch 4 (next month right?)? Taking into account both technical features and applications available.
3. Is browsing, or watching movies on a phone as uncomfortable of an experience as I imagine it will be? Can the eyes last the 2 hour length of a full movie? Is the sound quality and volume acceptable (I'm assuming an earphone set is a must for movie viewing)?
4. If I get the iPhone it will be my first Apple product. Anything I should know about first? For iPhone 4 owners, how is the phone so far? Can we access and buy stuff from the Apple app store here in the Philippines? I do have a credit card account, I'm just not sure if that alone is enough to register. Also, I am left handed (sux, I know), is it a deal breaker?
5. How is the 3g service here in Cebu? How cheap/expensive are the plans? What are the rates/min? To post-paid or to pre-paid? How is the actual speed (compared to DSL/wifi service of similar advertised speed, price)?
6. Other questions to follow as soon as I think about them.
Thanks Istoryans, you guys are the best!
