School of Rock Mo’to!
Rock Mo’to year 1 showcased the kind of outrageous tenacity and drive that only Motorola can give. Motorola selected 7 of the country’s best rock musicians, Sandwich’s Raymund Marasigan, Imago’s Aia De Leon, Sponge Cola’s Yael Yuson, Sugarfree’s Ebe Dancel, Greyhounds’ Reg Rubio and Urbandub’s Gabby Alipe to show just what Pinoy artistry is all about. These 7 front men (and woman) were dubbed the Rock Mo’to Icons.
The Rock Mo’to Icons showcased their intense melodic poetry and heart-pounding, pulse-splitting music as they toured hot spots around Manila and Cebu with the hottest bands of today. Each rockin’ night with the Rock Mo’to Icons became a testimony of the Pinoy’s inherent musical edge and flair.
The success of Rock Mo’to year 1 has paved the way for a bigger and better Rock Mo’to year 2. Heralding the newest ROKR handset, the MotoROKR E2, Motorola has taken rock music to the university level. Dubbed School of Rock Mo’to, the event invites amateur bands to audition for the limited 16 slots allotted for a 2-day all expenses paid rock music clinic from Sept 16 to 17. The 16 bands chosen will undergo lessons covering all the skills needed to survive in the music industry. Sessions include everything from artistic ability and song arrangement to band management and album production!
After graduating from School of Rock Mo’to, all 16 bands will play at a grand concert on Sept 22 at the UP Bahay Ng Alumni, alongside modern-day rock legends Dicta License, Pedicab, Up Dharma Down and itchyworms. The 16 acts will compete to become the ultimate School of Rock Mo’to Band; the
grand prize including a brand spanking new Motorola ROKR E2 for each of the band members, P50,000 in cash, a management contract, incredible media exposure and the prestige and honor of being Motorola endorsers! And to add to that, the winning band will also tour the city at the subsequent Rock Mo’to concert series together with an array of leading rock acts! It’s an opportunity no aspiring rock star should miss.
In Cebu, auditions will be held on Thursday, Sept 7 at Club VUDU at the Crossroads Mall Banilad to select the 5 semi-finalists. These semi-finalists will play at a Rock Mo’to concert on Saturday, Sept 9, (venue TBA) with awesome Motorola rock acts Up Dharma Down and itchyworms. At the end of the concert, one lucky band will be selected to join the 15 others at the School of Rock Mo’to weekend on Sept 16-17 in Metro Manila and will compete for the coveted School of Rock Mo’to Band title at the culminating concert on Sept 22.
Rock Moto year 2 promises to be a veritable menagerie of sight and sound. With hot up-and-coming bands, an astoundingly cool rock education, and amazing Motorola prizes, it’s a true testament to genuine Filipino talent that’s set to push you into a whirlwind of pure, unadulterated musical artistry.
