Cebu/Philippines engineering job market outlook

Hi all,

I'm studying mechanical engineering in Canada. I left the Philippines when i was 13 and am now on my last year and a half of post-secondary schooling.
I just wanted to ask you guys what the prospects are like of getting a job, specifically in the engineering field, in the Philippines. While i realize that more opportunities lie outside the Philippines, the job market in North America is a bit in the gutter. Seeing as you guys are there and should know what the job market is like, I've come here to ask. Basically, my question is, what is it like? what are some prominent industries i should begin to look into?

what certifications do you have? here in the philippines, engineers are required to have a license in order to practice your profession. you have to pass an examination given by the Professional Regulations Commission for your profession.

i have no information if the philippines has professional equivalency regarding that issue. but i think no we dont have as some filipino engrs emigrating to canada end up as waiters or drivers and such unable to practice their profession because our licenses here are not recognized there.

the philippines is a third world country. that means there is fertile need in the infrastructure and engineering sectors. i would say you can find suitable employment in the power and energy industry. manufacturing field is affected by the economic crisis which you must know is global.
