    Default The Gospel of John

    Chapter 15
    John, chapter 15

    18: "If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you.
    19: If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.
    20: Remember the word that I said to you, `A servant is not greater than his master.' If they persecuted me, they will persecute you; if they kept my word, they will keep yours also.
    21: But all this they will do to you on my account, because they do not know him who sent me.
    22: If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin.
    23: He who hates me hates my Father also.
    24: If I had not done among them the works which no one else did, they would not have sin; but now they have seen and hated both me and my Father.
    25: It is to fulfil the word that is written in their law, `They hated me without a cause.'

    This explains why the Catholic Church is a suffering Church nowadays.

    Instead of focusing on the Gospel of Judas, why not focus on the Gospel of John. Of the 4 gospels declared to be canonical, the gospel of John interests me. Its shows the inner thoughts of Christ and its the most "deep" among the 4 gospels.

    1: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
    2: He was in the beginning with God;
    3: all things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made.
    4: In him was life, and the life was the light of men.
    5: The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
    6: There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
    7: He came for testimony, to bear witness to the light, that all might believe through him.
    8: He was not the light, but came to bear witness to the light.
    9: The true light that enlightens every man was coming into the world.
    10: He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world knew him not.
    11: He came to his own home, and his own people received him not.
    12: But to all who received him, who believed in his name, he gave power to become children of God;
    13: who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.
    14: And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth; we have beheld his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father.
    15: (John bore witness to him, and cried, "This was he of whom I said, `He who comes after me ranks before me, for he was before me.'")
    16: And from his fulness have we all received, grace upon grace.
    17: For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

    This is one of the passages that touches me. It shows our helplessness without God in our lives.

    John, chapter 6

    51: I am the living bread which came down from heaven; if any one eats of this bread, he will live for ever; and the bread which I shall give for the life of the world is my flesh."
    52: The Jews then disputed among themselves, saying, "How can this man give us his flesh to eat?"
    53: So Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in you;
    54: he who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.
    55: For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.
    56: He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him.
    57: As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so he who eats me will live because of me.
    58: This is the bread which came down from heaven, not such as the fathers ate and died; he who eats this bread will live for ever."
    66: After this many of his disciples drew back and no longer went about with him.
    67: Jesus said to the twelve, "Do you also wish to go away?"
    68: Simon Peter answered him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life;

    I'm sorry, but if all you're going to do is quote verses from the Bible and expect another thread on religion, I'll have to cut this off.

    Perhaps you may want to check out an existing thread in the Arts & Literature forum.
