Man, 20, nabbed on rape of girl, 13
THE National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) 7 arrested a suspected rapist who was visiting his father in the hospital yesterday.
Mark Louie Gachapin, 20, was picked up when he went to the Cebu City Medical Center, on suspicion that he raped a 13-year-old girl in April last year.
Another rape suspect was also arrested in the last 48 hours, again for allegedly attacking a minor.

A construction worker, eighth in the “most wanted” list of the Talisay City Police Office, was arrested for rape in Manipis last
Thursday morning.
Chief Insp. Jovito Canlapan, Talisay City Police Station deputy chief, identified the suspect as Mario Caballero, 48, a resident of Sitio Campo 5, Barangay Manipis.
In Gachapin’s case, NBI operatives headed by Agent Rey Villordon acted on the basis of an arrest warrant that Regional
Trial Court (RTC) Judge Raphael Yrastorza issued against Gachapin and Paul Brian Zabate.
Zabate is still at large.
Gachapin and Zabate allegedly got the 13-year-old drunk during a disco in Basak-Tagunol, Mambaling, Cebu City where they were neighbors.
The two then allegedly raped the teenager inside a shanty. Gachapin denied this.
He admitted that the girl was raped in his house but said he was not part of it.
Gachapin told reporters that he and the girl met at the disco but were with different groups.
They went home together, but that was as far as it went, said Gachapin.
In the other case, Judge Olegario Sarmiento Jr. issued the warrant for Caballero’s arrest.
With SPO2 Jerome Abatayo, the subpoena and warrant server, Canlapan invited Caballero to go with him to the police station around 9:35 a.m.
Canlapan said they did not immediately inform the suspect about his warrant of arrest to avoid creating a commotion. “We
told him about his warrant of arrest when we reached the police station,” he said.
Canlapan said the warrant stemmed from the rape complaint filed by Caballero’s 15-year-old niece.
Investigation showed that the suspect allegedly sexually abused the teenager in January last year, he said.
But Caballero denied he raped the girl and identified the latter’s father instead as the culprit, Canlapan said.
As of yesterday, Caballero was detained at the PNP detention cell at City Hall pending the issuance of a court order for his detention at the Talisay City Jail. (JGA/GC)
