Ok, I got the inspiration from the movie Dark Knight and I just thought this would be very interesting here considering the "surprisingly good" number or existence of prejudiced people here.
So allow me to quote the Joker:
"You will participate in a little social experiment.
On the first boat, we have Muslims, the enemy of the Christians. Their faith is strong and they will always be at the beck and call of Allah to do his bidding. Are they really violent are are they misunderstood or are they another victim of incitement by people ignorant of their faith. Or is it? Will you take that chance?
On the second boat, we have the Atheists. They don't believe in God and are therefore are considered damned by every religious text in modern history. Infidels, non-believers, anti-christs or whatever. Most of them hate the idea of following sacred texts. They could potentially not feel guilty about wiping out an entire boat that stands in the name of a God that they despise so much. Should they be tossed in the fiery pits of hell? Would you do the honors?
Finally, the third boat we have Christians. If they haven't killed each other inside the boat arguing about the "right" thing to do, one of them could recklessly pull the trigger and send the rest of the "heathens" to hell. Their God has taught them at one time to wipe out an entire city in His name and on another occasion to leave the heretics "up to Him". Someone could make His job a lot easier and let him sort it out himself.
Now choose which of you deserves to live. The detonator blows up the 2 other boats. By 12 midnight, I will blow up all the boats if no decision is made. Tick tock, the clock is ticking..."
Personally, I really think that part of the movie was BS. I believe in the real world the outcome would be grimmer.
Does one really have what it takes to be the judge, jury and executioner for an entire boat of people or is our conviction just as strong as our words ONLY?
