What pointers should be taken into consideration to maximise the efficiency of a DIY CO² External Reactor?
What type of design(s) are capable to maximise the efficiency?

sir i just attach the end of the co2 hose to the intake of my canister filter. you could maximize the efficiency by making the bubble have long contact with the water. u can get this either by injecting the co2 through the intake or put a co2 glass diffuser below the output of the filter.

you can use in tank CO2 reactor with bubble counter by sera. if you are having a nano and around 20 gal tank.
very easy to use and more efficient. you can secure it at pipers or riverfront.

DIY CO2: DIY CO2 System for Planted Aquarium

my concoction:

1/2 kilo brown sugar (Panda brand)
1/2 teaspoon Active Dry Yeast
700 to 800ml water on a 1.5 liter (coke bottle)

dissolve sugar first on a 400 to 500ml water...you could use hot water to dissolve it but MAKE SURE you let it cool first before adding the active dry yeast.
dissolved active yeast on water(just enough water to dissolve the yeast), do not use hot water.

Then combine the water with sugar, and dissolved yeast...add tap water to make it up to 700ml or so.. this would have an output in about 30 minutes to an hour.

another method is to use gelatin as substitute for sugar, it is slow to react but it will last long.
