THE BURNING QUESTION on everyone's mind is what Nvidia parts are failing in the field? No GT200 jokes here, NV personnel are still quite sensitive about that, but our moles have told us about the bum GPUs.
based on the headline this is more likely not true... more like a chismis heehehe. that could also be libelous

    It is true:

    2) Quote from Tomshardware:

The company posted sales of $893 million, down 23% from $1.15 billion the first quarter and down 5% from $936 million year over year. In a rare event, Nvidia Nvidia - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia reported a hefty loss of $120.9 million, compared to a net income of $211.8 million in the first quarter.
Nvidia said that its GPU Graphics processing unit - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia replacement program had a price tag of $196 million. CEO Jen-Hsun Huang said that while the failures affected a relatively small percentage of its total GPU output, repairing an entire notebook Laptop - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia "can be expensive". Huang also admitted that Nvidia underestimated the "price/performance" of AMD’s/ATI Ati - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ’s most recent graphics chip, resulting in a wrong position of its products and forcing the company to adjust its pricing during the quarter.

    3) They have officially admitted to the problem but are "silent" in saying which chips are affected.

    4) I've called Dell because I had two laptops with an 8400m gs and an 8600m gt which have not showed any signs yet but they told me to bring it in so they can repair the two items.

    Naughty, naughty nvidia.
How can you set aside 200 million dollars for repair if there is nothing to repair.
We don't even know if other chips aside from the g84 and g86 are affected. Maybe they've just computed that the other chips will die when the warranty ends.
Maybe the best thing to do now is to temporarily shift to ATI.

The problem is most prominent with the laptop/notebook GPUs. Desktop users shouldn't really worry.

Interesting. I thought at first that since the news came from The Inquirer, I would take it with a grain of salt. But you make a compelling argument, Lunch. Thanks for the heads up.

Laptop users would deeply appreciated this info, seeing that most of the affcted chips seem to be those on lappies.

it is prominent in laptops but all G84 and g86's are defective; if you know you are going to get another video card after warranty then that's OK but if you are planning to have the vc for more than a year then you're throwing away your money. sooner or later it will conk out.

new evidence suggests that the g9x's are also affected.
naughty naughty nvidia, i have an 8600gt baya dah. . .
