buy a tv capture/tuner card. i-connect ang card sa vhs player. i-play ang vhs tape and record it to mpg file. then burn the mpg file using nero.
the card is around P1.5K. dapat nindot ang specs sa imong computer aron dili mo kamang.
kini nga specs bro, ok na ni siya butangan ug tv tuner/capture card nga dili na mo kamang:Originally Posted by abloyboat

you can start looking at www.matrox.com and www.canopus.com or www.pinnaclesys.com. actually it depends on your video capture board or NLE capable of capturing which format; avi, mpeg, etc. mostly its an .avi format and you need a video encoder to convert your .avi file to mpeg or mpeg2 format; Tmpgenc, Cinema Craft Encoder and Adobe Premiere has built in encoder.
for the start try to get a decent video capture card and then you can use Adobe premiere or Tmpgenc to encode your raw video, .avi. i think Canopus video capture cards and Pinnacle System cards are available in manila, i forgot the local distro. some of those cards have bundled programs included.
duneman, thanks for this info, altho i'm really a neophyte regarding this so when i read about these things in websites, i admit i don't get exactly what is being said until an expert explains to me how the real thing works. this is just for personal use as i have quite a collection of vhs movies, so to preserve these, i'm planning to have them converted to dvd. the pc i am using has the minimum specs mentioned above, and if i understand fully well how this conversion to dvd works, the hardware and software i still need to acquire, and how much more it will cost me, i think i will consider investing on this sooner or later. again, thanks for this initial info, and i do hope you can advise me on this further.![]()
kumbati ra ni akong specs?
pentium III 800+MHz

@abloyboat: unsa brand anang tv capture nimo na tag 1.5k?
please go to www.dvdrhelp.com, there are a lot of tutorials on conversion and capturing, also companies who make those cards have thier own forum.
my first rig for video editing was a PIII 800 MHz, 512 MB Ram, 32 MB ATI VGA and a SCSI Hard disk and a Pinnacle System DV500 video capture card, at that time 7200 rpm IDE hard disk are not available. what i would like to suggest is to get a fast hard disk, minimum 7200 rpm 2 MB cache but faster and larger cache is an advantage so no dropped frames during capturing.
take note, please use an intel chipset MOBO. i dont know now if there are still some issues using the new chipset for AMD CPU. OT... im now a convert, i started using AMD CPU but not for my video editing..
as ive said you can search/browse the manucfacturer's site and you can look and even ask for those information before buying your stuff.......
