Default Kinsay naay knowledge pag transfer ug video from Camcorder to Laptop.

    Hi to all experts

I'm having problem in transferring video to my laptop computer through USB port.

My laptop is Acer Aspire 1640, Pentium M Processor 1.73GHz Centrino, RAM512 MB, Hard drive60 GB, OS Windows XP Prof., Service Pack 2.

Though it is recognize by the laptop and I'm able to control the stop, play, rewind, forward buttons from the laptop. However, when I start recording the video to my laptop, in windows movie maker I get an error message "An error has occurred with your capture device. Check that it is configured properly and try again. If necessary, refer to the documentation for the capture device for more information." I also tried to use Powerdirector the software that came along with the Camcorder but it captures for only 4 seconds and stops. I'm pretty sure that I have installed correctly the software of the Camcorder as well as the video codec software. My laptop also supports USB2. I'm using USB cable to transfer video since the laptop has no firewire port.

However, I am able to transfer the video using my desktop computer in my office through its USB port even without installing the software that came along with the camcorder. I only use the windows movie maker software. The PC configuration is Pentium 4 2.5 GHz, RAM512 MB, OS Windows XP Prof., Service Pack 2.

By the way my camcorder specs is JVC GR-D290.

Palihug ko ug tabang kay dugay nako nagita ug sulustyun ani. lisud ka au ig travel dili ko da download sa video to laptio.

Daghan salamat daan sa katong matinabagun.

    ahhhh....

    drop frames...

must be the cables that connects the camcoder to the lappy..

change the cables...or if possible..use the firewire connection if it have.

though usb2 is faster...firewire is simply more stable..

it had a miniDV tape in it?

    Thanks @istoryanimo & @butitoy....

I don't think so the USB cable has the problem, i use the same cable when i download from other desktop PC nor the USB port of the lappy.
when the camcorder is in camera mode i'm able to download the pictures and if in video mode i can control the play, stop, rewind buttons from the laptop.

May laptop has no Firewire port... does anyone know how much is the PCI firwire for laptop here in cebu?

yup if could be dropframes... do you have a partation? try to saved it on the other partation but one of the reason why youre getting drop frames is slow hard drive and most laptop are sporting a 5400 rpm drive.

one more thing, disable your AV and anti-Spyware during capturing and disable screen saver, no other application running. i hope it does helps.

Thanks guyz..@duneman i'll try this solution and will update you soon.

Thanks also @butitoy you understood what i mean.

Additional question.... what if i add a DDR RAM to my laptop to make it 1GB RAM... would this help avoid the dropframes if this is the culprit.

as ive said one of the causes of dropframes is a slow hard drive and i guess your laptop is having a 5400 rpm not a 7200rpm drive, adding more RAM just try...
