how to connect SLES 10 to the internet?

hello bros,

install me novell SLES 10 OS, then i try to connect it to the internet, having inputted the needed data (IP ADDRESS, GATEWAY), to the network card config @ YAST. problem is that i cant connect, is there needed to configure to its firewall? if there is bros, can u help me with it?

Firewall is for incoming connections only. Outgoing connections are by default will pass through.

To easily diagnose your problem. Ping first to the gateway using IP address not domain name.
If the ping does not pass, your gateway is unreachable. You may have a different subnet as your gateway.
If it pass, ping the DNS server (using IP address).
If it does not pass, try to traceroute where the packet stops and analyze what happened.
BTW, you have not mentioned your DNS settings. You could get this IP addresses from your ISP. Your router also may support DNS serving, so you could point your DNS to your router but better to your ISP.

If you could ping your external dns (ISP dns), then you are ready to go. Try pinging www.google.com.
If www.google.com does not resolve to an IP (ping will show IP address of google), then your DNS setting is wrong.

Can you test it using 'ifconfig'?

Kung naa ba ip address imong interface(i.e. eth0)?
