Seares: Dealing with a ‘lunatic’ president
"If the commander-in-chief, the duly elected president, would ask, out of a whim, the military to shoot all the civilians, what would be the action of the Armed Forces?" -- Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV to Brig. Gen. Restituto Padilla, AFP spokesperson, at a hearing of the Commission on Appointments committee on national defense, June 1, 2016
SENATOR Trillanes made it clear at the C.A. hearing that having "a lunatic president in the future" was hypothetical.
A few weeks before the elections, the senator tried to expose Rodrigo Duterte's bank deposits. That failed but produced deep resentments. Trillanes said Duterte could be corrupt. Duterte called Trillanes an idiot.
That, amid the noise of the campaign pitch that Duterte would have blood of criminals flow on the streets.
Maybe if it were the police he was facing, Trillanes could've been closer to the more immediate concern: what if the president would order all criminals and crime suspects shot down?
It wouldn't require a lunatic to initiate or encourage vigilantism and dispense with the machinery of justice. Any obsessed political leader could junk his oath to uphold the Constitution and adopt jungle law in its place.
Alarm bells
It's not lunacy. Pseudo Digongs and little Digongs would think they're protecting the people even if they'd destroy democratic precepts.
Maybe Trillanes and others who worry over their country shouldn't just look out for signs of dementia in seats of power. When leaders cross boundaries, such as paying bounty for each slain or wounded criminal or crime suspect, alarm bells should already peal.
Having a lunatic president is hypothetical. Leaders who see themselves as demigods wielding power over life and death are not.
And yes, a comforting word from the military: it would not use its guns against the country's citizens.
grrr kalagot aning seares ay...
In order to "legally" label a person as a lunatic, you need a medical certificate from a government accredited medical institution.
To thiink si Trillanes ang duol duol sa lunatic, maski nga high tide ug low tide naa epek sa iya gipang yaw yaw.... im hoping magapos si Trillanes sa doLdoL soon...

I forsee.. if Digong will have trouble running the government, there might be a REVERSE People Power... supporting our President against those a individuals and institutions resistant to change.
Call it Fascism or anything... it doesn't matter.
Digong is too straightforward...... we are very lucky to have him as President..... daghan ang naa sa media kun dili abusado, corrupt, others can easily be swayed to the highest bidder. Even the media giants have one-sided broadcasting styles too
