    Default floopy disk drive in linux red hat


    I am neophyte of linux red hat 9.0, please assist me where i can find drive a: (floopy disk), just like in microsoft windows drive a:, drive c: and drive d:.. another concern also, can i open my microsoft office documents, spreadsheets (from diskette) in open office or vice versa? please answer asap...

    Aside from newer distro's which have supermount/subfs (e.g SuSE 9.3, Mandrake 10 among the ones), you would need to mount the floppy in order to access it.

    Depending on your window manager (GUI) you might have a little shortcut for your floppy drive on your desktop.

    If not, then you have to do a 'mount /dev/fd0 <mountpoint>', then 'cd <mountpoint> from a your shell. You should see all your files when you a listing.

    Don't forget to issue a 'umount /dev/fd0' before ejecting the floppy.
