Just my observation - contestants considered as our favorites are currently using "safe" renditions because they are confident enough to make it to the Top 10. Once they make it there that is where they will bring their "big guns" or their best performances.

note that this competition is about popularity and fanbase given that the winners are selected by mass telephone or text responses.
