esp. if they have to refund the advance payments, then the hotels will have to drop their rates to try and recover some of the loss - if they can find someone to book the next 4 days at this late point in time.
Kahinay ra sa bagyong Senyang ah. Tana awa ron o. Pagka nindot sa panahon. I dont think bagyo ang cause.
Lain kaayo paminawon.
its the typhoon.. and its the only logical reason.. everything is ready para sa Summit.. and dont tell me na hinay ang bagyo.. kay murag naa koy nakit.an na banner nilupad ganina..
It didnt even hit Cebu. Karun naa bay bagyo? Naa bay na damage?
Typhoon was used as an alibi.
i think so..siguro nakat-on na ang cebu back when ruping hit cebu...at first pag-asa said that i would'nt hit cebu directly but the storm suddenly changed its mind and it did hit cebu and did a great deal of damage..
now its seniang..
i guess its just safe to call off the summit. I'm glad cebu learned from the past..
Summit cancellation stumps Asean heads, dejects Cebu execs
Local officials in Cebu were also surprised and disappointed over the postponement of the summit.
“We had prepared for a possible typhoon. It was not a problem as far as we could see,” Nagiel Banacia, a spokesman for Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña, said.
“This has been terrible for Cebu. Everyone is down,” he added.
Another business leader said the gathering would be remembered as the summit that failed.
“For Cebu itself this has been a disaster,” he said on condition of anonymity. “A lot of money went into this to promote Cebu as a safe tourist destination. Many delegates will not come back,” he averred.
Amid the brouhaha over the summit’s postponement, problems have cropped up apparently due to the rushed construction of the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC), the Asean summit’s main venue.
Workers at the CICC, that was hosting the media yesterday, were covering the lone X-ray security machine with cardboard and laying rubber tiles on the floor as rains seeped through the convention’s roof.
Barefoot staff used brushes to whisk away pools of water at the site, which officials said cost more than P500 million to build.
It's a sign of a weak government," said Tomas Osmeña, mayor of the city of Cebu, where the ASEAN summit and a wider meeting of regional leaders had been due to begin on Sunday.
"We would not have cancelled it and we live here," Osmena told Agence France-Presse.
The abrupt cancellation, terror worries and other problems -- X-ray security machines were covered in plastic bags to keep off rain dripping through the $10-million convention centre -- have given her critics more ammunition.
"Political survival for her comes first," he said. "The weather was a good excuse."
it's better they postpone it otherwise we would have been the laughing stock of our asean neighbor... there's already flooding at CICC after the storm... archt. guanzon mention that they were suppose to test the place for flooding.. when? asean suppose to start tomorrow, sir!
Nice point Sumaganday, the government loves to hide the negative side of Cebu or the Philppines in totality, they only want to show the +++ sides. Even though they know that the storm will not really be a supertyphoon but what if the delegates might see the street or even the CICC flooded with water.
I just hope the target date of the postponement will bring in more and not less (delegates).
