Well, as far as I know there are workshops for creative writing but these occur sporadically within the year, around summertime and takes place in the weekends. It is often whole-day affairs.

A good way, and by good I mean cheap and maybe convenient, is that you gather friends of like hobbies and make your own writing circle. As I previously posted, there are many resources that can be found online if you really want to study or practice writing.

One recommended website is this one: mywritingexercises.blogdrive.com, which features a feast of writing tips and assignments that you could try out to test your creativity.

Hay.. I would still love to pursue my desire to write. The problem is always time.
Diem, how can we get notified of upcoming writing workshops and the likes here in Cebu aside from through istorya.net?

What I suggest you do is really keep your ears and eyes open, especially in the local dailies like Sun Star, Freeman and Cebu Daily News where announcements of such activities are broadcasted. Online, you should google "Cebu Writer Workshops" once a month at least.

Another thing you can do is connect with your university alma mater, particularly with the Literature/Languages Department of the College of Arts and Sciences because sometimes they do offer summer workshops, especially for their employees or those willing to pay. I suggest you get in touch with every major university with a CAS in Cebu by sembreak or summer to find out more news.

I've been busy with work during the week, family and my other love, filmmaking, over the past few weekends-- missing the adventure that is writing.

Presently, what I am really in the mood for are writing stories in the mystery, sci fi, action adventure, fantasy/supernatural genres.

Does romance writing count? I'm currently a writer for three publishing houses (Precious Hearts Romances, My Special Valentine, Love Match). I do it as a hobby and I have three pen names. It's kinda fun actually.

That's pretty awesome Writing romance has its own unique challenges. May I ask, is writing for these romance publishing houses just a sideline career for you?

    The Fairiest Tale Never Told
One sunny day, little girl was chasing a lovely creature in the field. She ran as fast as she could but the yellow little thing she’s running after vanished from her sight. She slowly walked back home with her hurt little feet. “I might catch you tomorrow anyway “she said to herself. The day came for the little thing to pass by her window again she just observed it quietly until it hops on the white daisy next to their house. “Oh! If I could only be a beautiful flower” she exclaimed to herself. She quietly went nearer to the flower and her presence slightly disturbed the yellow butterfly. “Hey wait! I want to play and make friends with you” Said the girl. “You’re a cute little girl playing with you seems to be fun but I have this very important thing to do my life is not that long enough and soon will I die” replied the butterfly. “But what is it that makes you busy?” Asked she. You see I’m painting the world for the one I dearly loved. Then she bids goodbye and leave. Poor little girl she couldn’t understand a lot of things.
Then she went on and met a lonely boy on her way. “Hey! Are you lonely too?” “Oh it’s my daisy that makes me sad, I give her water and even sang songs for everyday but she can’t smile to me the way she does every time that yellow butterfly kissed her.” Said, the boy. “It’s my butterfly that is so fond of your daisy and visits her every day, I used to chase him but he flew away from me. But he’s not a bad butterfly at all and I learned something sad from him. He’s dying soon and yet it’s because of his love that he can’t enjoy and play in his remaining days.”
Little boy and little girl find each other’s company from then on.
They climbed up trees and bruised their knees
Crossed the spring and run in the greenery
They laid on the grass and bathe in the rain
    And here comes summer again!
    The fields are greener now
    A new life was born
The flowers bloom in rainbow colors
And there’s something that wasn’t there before.
Who else could appreciate the beauty of the flower than a butterfly?”
“Who else could perfectly put a smile on little girl’s face than a little boy?”
    This tale also begins with..
Once upon a time we’ve been a butterfly, a flower, a little boy and little girl in our lives.

It's just my "sideline." Anytime I'm not busy. It's hard when you have a lot of bosses though. I would have loved living in the time when writers were allowed to jump from one publishing house to another without changing pen names.

BTW, I'm female. So there. Hahaha!

Nah, I'm a newbie writer. I just stumbled upon it after I gave up my job to focus on my family. Romance writing is fun.

    Precious Hearts Romance - Sabrina
My Special Valentine - Satine Ortega
    Love Match - Anya Vega

Can't use one pen name for all three publishing houses. I was forced to create three alter egos. Not much freedom for romance writers nowadays. Sad.
