If one is truly searching for the truth, one's mind is open to any possibility of what that truth might be. It may or may not be what one is expecting. As the saying goes, "Truth can be stranger than fiction." (noticed any oddly paired couple lately?)

Not everyone will leave the comfort of their beliefs to discover the truth. Some persons (too many I fear) would rather live in denial than face a reality different than what they imagined it to be.

It's the open-minded attitude that is indicative of a person searching for the truth. He or she is one who is open to change in the light of better evidence. He or she also learns from almost anyone (or any source), and takes what is of value, and discards the false.

There is more to truth than logic (or there is more to the brain than conscious thinking). One may say, for example, "This beer bottle next to me is an illusion. Reality is merely relative. It's just signals in my brain." Now, if someone happens to break that bottle in your head, wouldn't that feel just a tad too real? (lucky Descartes, no one thought of doing this to him) Another illustration is when you sleep (lose waking consciousness) and later wake up (regain waking consciousness). Is it not the same world after waking up as it was before sleeping? Existence is not sustained by one's waking consciousness.

Our sense of reality precedes the relatively slower and more formal process of computation (or conscious thinking). We perceive reality from our sensations and "feelings." So, if one senses or "feels" it, there has be something there causing it.

Emotions are what we feel inside of us. It precedes conscious thought (Daniel Goldman in Emotional Intelligence). Emotions just might be as valid as the other sensations. For example, Daniel Goldman gave an example of a man who damaged that part of his brain that processes emotions. That man remained as smart as he was before the accident however, he can't seem to come up with a decision anymore. He said, he can see the merits and demerits of any choice, it's just that, none seem to have more weight that any of the others. I interpret this to mean that emotions are also integral to our (intelligent) thinking. Logic may not be so cold after all (we emotionally assign more weight to facts in general or to facts in particular).

Feeling for things are integral to us, just as much as we need to sense the world around us. That is why, we sometimes not only think the truth, we also feel it. Feelings are respectable. Especially now, that the existence of multiple domains of intelligence has become part of mainstream science. Some of us are more sensitive than others, or to also put in another way, some of us are better at certain domains of intelligences than others. If one does not believe in the value of emotions or feelings, try appreciating art, literature, or music without it. =)

I doubt even beliefs are emotion free. Just read the posts, and you will see some passion in them whenever the topic touches people's beliefs. No one is so dispassionate. Even Buddha, who taught "dispassion," felt the joy (or an emotion that's "out of this world") of Nirvana (relief from suffering one's selfishness). (He may have described it as an experience of attaining peace. But, what made that peace deeper than the other kinds of peace? It was the quality of the emotion that came with it.)

In summary, we not only think the truth, we also feel it. Belief maybe (mostly) of the brain but, faith is (mostly) of the heart.

cruman, i think the bible was not intended to be termed "advanced". it's sole purpose is for guidance and not predicting any advance whatsoever. although it may have contained some blurry references to advanced technology, still it's eccentric for your leader to quote that as an advanced book.
