the PM was the ONLY way to know who warned you.

Well, warned usually means you made a first time/small time violation within the forums. A warn is usually a warning before getting banned.

Forum moderators are in charged for warning people.

there is what they call a FORUM RULES in case you havent read it yet. Violation of that rule will means a corresponding penalty [warned, moderated, banned, IP ban, etc etc].
