It was just yesterday when I learned that the peso is almost breaking the P48 per dollar mark at P48.08. I guess the prediction of economic analysts is right that the peso can reach up until P46 this year.Originally Posted by sirk

because the gas prices are relatively stable, the peso is continually appreciating, better roads, this administration is more business-friendly, more tourists and investors more predictable GNP.
I really hope that the peso continue to strengthen in the coming months. The remarkable performance of the economy during the past months have also made remarkable results. Inflation has lowered, there has been decreases in some prices of consumer goods. Domestic investment is also seen as another take off point for further improvement in the economy. This could be seen as results of GMA having economic inclinations and knows how to handle the economy which is slowly improving. Despite some negative remarks against her administration, her strong-willed approach in implementing economic reforms and the new tax measures makes her "good for business."Originally Posted by baron

The peso breached its P48 per dollar mark when it reached P47.99 today. I am quite adamant that the peso will breach such mark when it closed at P48.05 last time. I suppose the opposition will have to counter the continuous appreciation of peso with their baseless allegations and remarks.Originally Posted by baby_grace

Even if her husband is in the hospital she is still doing her job by bringing her work to the hospital. She's not only a good president she is also a good wife.

MANILA, Philippines -- Not wanting any interruption in her work even as she attends to First Gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has set up an office inside the St. Luke's Medical Center, the First Gentleman’s attending physician has said.
Dr. Juliet Gopez-Cervantes said the President has opted to stay with her husband after his open heart surgery and was "holding office upstairs."
"She's high spirited and happy that the most critical part is over and she opted to stay," she told reporters in a news briefing Wednesday.
Marilen Lagniton, St. Luke's vice president for customer affairs division, said Arroyo was currently occupying the presidential suite, which had a visitors’ area separate from the patient's room and which was equipped with a fax machine, a personal computer with an Internet connection, and printer.
“The room costs P20, 937 a day,” Lagniton said, when asked about the cost of renting the room.
"President Arroyo divides her time between prayer and the uninterrupted tasks of leadership as well as the welfare of the people," Arroyo's spokesman Ignacio Bunye said in a statement earlier on Wednesday.
Speaker Jose DeVenecia and wife Gina; Audrey Zubiri, wife of TEAM Unity senatorial candidate Miguel Zubiri; and Cacai Arroyo, wife of Diosdado “Dato” Arroyo and their daughter Eve Victoria were seen at the hospital Wednesday.
Tourism Secretary and TEAM (Together Everyone Achieves More) Unity spokesman Joseph Ace Durano, who met with Arroyo Wednesday afternoon, said she remains "a working President."
Durano met with Arroyo Wednesday afternoon after he tried to see the First Gentleman.
He said he updated the President on tourist arrivals, which he said are "looking very good."
"So I thought a bit of good news would be nice," he added.
Durano said they did not discuss politics or TEAM Unity’s campaign.
The only time politics cropped up, said Durano, was when he congratulated Audrey Tan-Zubiri, who also visited St. Luke’s, for her husband and TEAM Unity candidate Juan Miguel Zubiri’s improvement in the surveys.
On Tuesday night, top Cabinet officials arrived --Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita, Defense Secretary Hermogenes Ebdane Jr., Interior Secretary Ronaldo Puno, and PNP chief Oscar Calderon.
At his weekly press conference in Malacañang Wednesday, Ermita said they were not at the hospital for a Cabinet security cluster meeting but it was by chance that they visited the First Gentleman at around the same time.
Ermita said the President was smiling when she met them and talked about the successful operation on the First Gentleman.
Gopez-Cervantes said they did not recommend to the President that she stay in the hospital but that she had chosen to be there.
She said the First Gentleman would look for the President and their grandchildren every time he would wake up.
Gopez-Cervantes said the First Gentleman remained sedated to keep him relaxed but would be awakened from time to time.
With the President in the hospital, so are members of her Presidential Security Group.
Members of media, who have camped out outside the lobby, have been barred from entering the building.
In Malacañang, Ermita said Arroyo has been in constant contact with him and other officials since Monday.
"She is in contact with us, she calls me frequently. Everything is business as usual," Ermita told reporters at his weekly news conference.
"Governance is normal...The only thing that could affect her during the first days was because she lost some sleep," he added.
He said it was to be expected that the President would be affected emotionally, but assured that she is "in full control."
Arroyo's schedules since Monday have been cancelled because of the condition of the First Gentleman.
A scheduled trip to Boao, China on April 20 to 25 will also now depend on her husband's condition.
"So much will depend on the recovery of the First Gentleman after the first 48 hours," said Ermita, although he said there have been no cancellations yet so far.
Durano confirmed this, saying China trip "is still tentative."
"She wants to see if the First Gentleman will be fully recovered by then," Durano explained.
"From her statement, it's a go. She's going unless there is an urgent reason for her to cancel it. It's in her schedule, the China trip," he said.
The Boao trip will involve talks with possible investors, Durano said.
Ermita said documents are sent to the Arroyo at the presidential suite of the hospital, where she holds office. "Tambak nga ang papeles sa kanyang suite [The papers are piling at her suit]," he said.
He added that the President always goes to the chapel in the hospital to pray.

^ It just shows how dedicated she is to her job. It's very difficult to balance her time between attending to her husband and running a country. But still, she managed to do just that since it is a necessity.
Maybe we can commend the president for that. Despite the incident that happened, she's still doing her work as president. It was even reported that her trip to China to encourage more investors is still not cancelled even if her husband is recovering from operations.
