Moving south from Caceres one encounters another of Fray Julian's handiwork, the octagonal watchtower of Oslob. Its rubble walls appears solid and in good condition. The fact is half of the tower has collapsed into the sea. It was built 1800's dramatically located on a plateau high above the Cebu Strait.
ARGAO
All the remains of Argao's Defensive wall is the arched entrance which opens to the sea.
Mandaue A historical relic amid urban blight built in 19th century when raiders began concentrating their attacks on the towns of Northern Cebu after Fray Julian Bermejo's effective blockade and defense of the south, Mandaue's rubble watchtower is lost amidst the shanties and gasoline depots and surround it. Located at the Mandue approach to Mactan Bridge, this symbol of Mandaue City is easily ignored by travelers inching their way to Mactan Bridge.

sorry cant help but notice... this is not the manalili (now gullas street)street i know of. the picture is located at the back of city hall.. the building in the left is the old MCWD office. the right building is the old bodega of san miguel corporation i think... the uppermost structure is the cebu customs office now known as malacañang sa sugbo! cheers!
DAANG LUNGSOD
Daang Lungsod, as the name suggests, was an earlier site of the town of Oslob. Located 2 Km south of the present town site, the walls and 5 bastions of the fortified settlement still stand though much deteriorated and covered with green vegetation. The entrance to the fortification(below), and a window of bastion(right), where the molave planks serving as lintel are still in place.
The watchtower of Daang Lungsod stands on a hill beside the old settlement. A hexagonal structure, the rubble tower has a clear view of Cebu Strait and the neighboring Islands of Bohol, Siquijor, and Negros.
BOLJOON
Fray Julian Bermejo's defensive structures at close range. Separated from the church by a narrow corridor, the unadorned bell tower of Boljoon, Cebu looks out to the sea. From this tower (from anywhere of that compound) can be seen a watchtower high on the flanking mountain. This was a central relay station from which signals using flags could warn communities of imminent danger.
This building of cut coral and roofed with tiles, served as a secure hiding place or blockhouse in times of siege. Fray Julian was consummate military strategist and builder who not content with defense organized Boljoon and its neighboring towns of Oslob and Argao into a light armada composed of barangay, the indigenous outriggered boat. These vessels engaged the raiders in naval battles.
amazing...
