the tradition is there but the motivation is on the money...

and some are just forced..most particularly the kids, to represent a school. i do hope the weather will be fine this sunday. maski sunday nlng for the participants. participating in the mardigras is the tradition, the intention of winning spells out competition. so both.

I was at the fluvial, daghan tao yes but most of those who woke up early to attend I think it's because of devotion. You can really feel the desire to see, wave, praise the Sto Nino as the boat carrying it niagi ubos sa bridge. It's something I can't explain.Ang uban okay ra sila as long as they can gaze sa boat carrying the image of the Sto Nino.

Daghan ga lalis diri if ang nahitabo ba nga FESTIVAL is all about TRADITION or COMPETITION .

The way I see it , its not about TRADITION and COMPETITION only but ....

DEVOTION , COMPETITION , FUN and TRADITION

Mind you guys , the festival started with NOVENAS ( 9 days ) , a very big procession and highlighted with a street party . Sinulog is not only about today ( January 15th ) or any 3rd Sunday every January . Its not only about getting drunk , dancing , meeting girls , getting a henna , dancing in the streets etc but a time to recollect also and devote by the faithfuls to our beloved patron , Senyor Sto. Nino de Cebu . To break it down :

DEVOTION - faithfuls , devotees , curious , adventurers etc marched the streets of Cebu City planned route the day before the Mardi Gras. RAIN or SHINE to sing BATOBALANI sa GUGMA .

COMPETITION - people spend and invest money on Puppets , Floats and Street Dancers . They are there to compete with other sectors of competitors . Some like Alpha Kappa Rho joined para sa HALAD and not for the competition .

FUN - Need I say more ? You guys arent having fun yet ? If thats the case , get out and have soem fun !!

TRADITION - Of course we all know how Sinulog started , its the basic dance steps initiated by Queen Juana a long time ago , the steps right now the street dancers whom one way or the other adapted the moves .

So please people , dont limit your outlooks on the TRADITION and COMPETITION only , Sinulog is not about the MARDI GRAS only. I see one more rant about another THEIST VERSUS ATHEIST issues , maka syagit gyud mo ug PIT SENYOR kang SPRINGY kini !!
