I agree bai. We can always be better than manila. Look at hongkong and compare it to the homeland china. Mas progressive ang hongkong. Let's hope lang na this happens before mag abot ang 50 years. Basin less than 10 years ma achive ni sa Cebu.

Hey arent we better than manila already in terms of destination? We surely are... you know a lot of foreign tourist knows Cebu and has been here w/out even going to Manila, they try to avoid manila as much as they can...thanks to international flights.

Take your foot out of your mouth.

Mactan airport? Who said it cant be done before? And whose laughing? Theres nothing extraordinary about Mactan airport. Its a flat land and thus its a natural choice to be an airport.

But these Master Plan is something. It surreal! It looks like a fairytale. And what about the social costs of these projects.

Cebu must keep its feet on the ground. And the proponents of it must be realistic. You dont have subways or railways yet. You dont even have skyscrapers yet.

My concern is that this plan might only be used as propaganda pitch. YOu want these plans to realize? Give people jobs first. Then we'll talk about it later.

Hongkong became hongkong because of the British. Its independent from china ever since. But Cebu is different. Its part and parcel of the Philippines. Kaya lang the leaders there wanted to project that it is separate from the Philippines and it could develop independently from the rest of the country.

I dont see why their leaders think that way. May I ask the defenders of the plan why do you think Cebu can become an autonomous development center like Hongkong?

Istoryador from the look of your post it seems like you have a bitterness on Cebu, thats fine Cebu is for everybody who would be happy to accept her and support her progress be it a Cebuano or not, but if your not a Cebu believer thats fine too, you still got a place in Cebu. By the way if disagreeing gives you pleasure then be my guest...after all below your avatar says principled, uncompromising, radical however you forget to include pain on the backside
    Have a nice day!

remember the time when an OsmeƱa Governor sold a piece of land owned by the Provincial Government to the Ayalas? People criticized him left and right. But now what? How many professionals are employed in the offices at the Cebu Business Park? (and not all of these employees are from Cebu) And about the poor, how many jeepney drivers make a living by plying the route to the Cebu Business Park? If Lito O. did not sell that piece of land, then it's probably just another squatter's settlement today.

... i have one line for you istoryador.

    THIS IS CEBU

.. but let me expound, for sure you're not here when the road-widening took place. That was the biggest undertaking the city has ever done ( except for SRP of course ). When rumours about that project reached people's ears, they begin to doubt but when it actually happened people got scared coz they will lose their houses. But those properties being demolished to make way for the road were paid very handsome compensations, people then started to smile. And now, look at Cebu's roads. it's bigger and more efficient.

...I guess you're not a true cebuano coz true cebuanos never doubt the ability of their city to prosper. That's the reason why this city has been evolving at a fast pace, it's united when it comes to development. There might be complaints here and there but eventually Cebuanos will get their heads together and move forward. Unlike Manila, the worst place ever.
