Greg Zeschuk, co-founder of Canadian developer BioWare, has said that the studio plans to continue making games based in the Mass Effect universe once this current trilogy is complete.

Speaking in a Kotaku podcast (via GamerNode), Zeschuck said that the assets of Mass Effect had turned into a "valuable universe”.

Zeschuk explained, "We're actually going to continue to use it for stuff and we're going to continue to make games there. Believe me; we have our work cut out for us for the next little while getting Mass Effect 3 done after this. Don't worry if you love Mass Effect, there will be more Mass Effect in the future."

The BioWare co-founder would not comment on whether or not future games in the franchise would stick to the action-RPG formula of the current trilogy or branch out into other game genres.

Yesterday BioWare unveiled ambitious plans for an in-game Mass Effect hub called The Cerberus Network, which will give users access to downloadable content and news within the Mass Effect universe.

"The Cerberus Network augments and extends the rich universe of Mass Effect 2," said Ray Muzyka, co-founder, BioWare. "We're thrilled to be able to reward loyal BioWare and Mass Effect fans with ongoing, high quality content and provide a direct channel for our players to dive deeper into the intriguing lore of Mass Effect."

IGN has an in-depth review on Mass Effect 2!

Games like Mass Effect 2 don't come around often enough. Look at any aspect and you can be sure it's great. It's incredibly personal while still retaining a sense of epic sweeping scale. The combat and mission design are outstanding. The visuals, voice acting, soundtrack, and direction are miles ahead of the competition. Perhaps most impressively, Mass Effect 2 manages to fulfill its incredible ambition while only suffering from very few technical hiccups. The only real caveat I should mention is that some of the revelations and plot twists won't be quite as powerful if you haven't played Mass Effect 1, but that isn't any reason to skip this fantastic videogame.
