oh dear, i'm not sure if i've posted here na or not, heheheh.
one of my favorite reads is The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco. it's a detective story set in the medieval era, if i remember right, in a rather strange abbey on top of a hill. the hero is a famous monk detective, and the story is narrated by his faithful aide. very interesting; beware of long narratives about religion, though.
another would be Sophie's World by Jostein Gaarder. this is a rather fun and captivating novel about philosophy. i have to say, it helped me nail my Philo class in college!
