Evil is that, which only benefits one person (or a relative minority of persons) at the expense of everyone else.

It is born from a certain form of insecurity that cannot accept a world appropriately shared by everyone (we are essentially equals before impersonal laws). An insecurity that rises from the denial of the truth that one is also finite and subject to things greater than one's self. This form of insecurity, if left unchecked, can become rabid, and manifests itself in many ways, and some of these are false pride, vanity, greed - that is, forms of lust for power that has the ultimate goal of precedence over all the others.

Evil is also a certain form of madness that denies its own better judgment, which results in sacrificing the long (or indefinite) term for the short (or immediate) term.

Conversely, good is that which benefits everyone (indirectly, by this process, it also benefits one's self), and may have to sacrifice the immediate (or short) term in favor of the indefinite (or long) term.

Evil is simply the absence of Good. So evil can't exist without the 'good'. The Devil on the other hand is an imaginative being that has the characteristics of being evil.

The idea of Evil is also subjective, it might be evil for a certain person but good for others. Example, you are help up in colon and you lost 1000 pesos, that is evil... but for the son of the holdupper waiting at home for the medicine, its good.
