Church.
Â* Â*In 97 serious dissensions troubled the Church of Corinth. The Roman Bishop, Clement, unbidden, wrote
Â* Â*an authoritative letter to restore peace. St. John was still living at Ephesus, yet neither he nor his interfered
Â* Â*with Corinth. Before 117 St. Ignatius of Antioch addresses the Roman Church as the one which "presides
Â* Â*over charity... which has never deceived any one, which has taught others." St. Irenaeus (180-200) states
Â* Â*the theory and practice of doctrinal unity as follows:
Â* Â* Â* Â* With this Church [of Rome] because of its more powerful principality, every Church must agree, that is
Â* Â* Â* Â* the faithful everywhere, in this [i. e. in communion with the Roman Church] the tradition of the Apostles
Â* Â* Â* Â* has ever been preserved by those on every side. (Adv. Haereses, III)
Luke should have affirmed any of what might hint to that ^ when he wrote to Theophilus. Instead he just ends the letter talking about what Paul was doing in Rome.
CULTS:
1. Roman Catholic Church - no coherent doctrine for salvation. But emphasis is on the sacraments, on works (compare against Rom. 11: 6, Eph. 2: 8 - 10) and some of those sacraments have even been profaned by people like Augustine, Ignatius of Antioch or pontiffs Honorius and Innocent III.
Yet ecumenical language and the appeal to political correctness at the expense of TRUTH has blinded the eyes of many and has deafened their ears to the Word of God. As Daniel wrote, TRUTH has been cast to the ground, and while the farce of ecumenism may indeed make people say we are safe. We are secure, sudden destruction will come upon them SOON. (1 Thes. 5: 1 - 3)
Yes indeed those who have a very low regard for REALITY and have not yet opened their spiritual eyes and ears will find this reasoning INSANE and DERANGED..... but we have the witness of God's prophets and His sent long ago..
2. INK - does NOT affirm that Jesus Christ is God incarnate. Salvation by works.
3. Unorthodox Protestants - does not affirm the fact that a Christian's calling is
to do good works. (Eph. 2: 10) and should be zealous for it. (Titus 2: 14 ESV)
4. Ang Dating Daan - many inconsistencies in presenting the Gospel many of which are derived from Jehovah's witnesses
5. Jehovah's Witnesses - 144, 000 only can be saved..... when in fact it is clear it means 12 times 12, meaning a merging of the patriarchs and the apostles. "24 elders" and a few verses below that distorted passage, we see John write
a great multitude, impossible to count.
Naming five is NOT exhaustive. Not that we should be diligent in branding those who are in error...... A religious denomination shouldn't determine what the Scriptures should teach. The Scriptures on the other hand should determine what a religious denomination should teach!
But there are those, today faithful in teaching the Scriptures with a focal point on the central theme of the Gospel, that Christ was handed over to die for our sins, and was raised for our justification. Who offered a sacrifice that is effective forever (Heb. 10: 12) that can perfect those who are being sanctified (v 14) and that there is no longer an offering for sin (v 18 ) because of God's great love in sending His Son as the atonement for our sin, (1 Jn 4: 10 - 11) for the appeasement of His wrath and for reconciling human beings to Himself. (2 Cor. 5: 20)
There are also other faithful denominations that affirm the central theme of the Gospel. The Roman Catholic Church is NOT one of them..... they only rewrite history in saying that the congregations planted by the apostles were subject to the Bishop or Presbyteral authority of Rome. And claim to be the only ones who had a complete set of the Sacred Writings, when the Arameans, the Coptics and the Greek Orthodox had them before they did.
It is absurd for ANY denomination to claim to be the one true "mystical body."
