    Editorials: Vigilantes, hired killers

It is not really difficult to countenance somebody involved in vigilante-style killings to eventually become
a hired killer. Or for a hired killer to become a vigilante.

This point cropped up recently when the sister-in-law of Roberto Jagdon, the suspect in the killing of
radioman George Benaojan, claimed that Jagdon once told her he was a vigilante.

Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Bureau Chief Paul Labra II, when asked about the report, said his
unit has not received information that Jagdon was a vigilante---as if the Cebu City Police Office is really
interested in unmasking the identities of vigilantes.

But if Jagdon really killed Benaojan, then one could not discount the possibility he honed his killing skills
    in vigilante operations.

This, in a sense, is the other danger of using vigilante-style killings to stem the tide of criminality or at
least “inspire” vigilantes to kill suspected robbers without being arrested.

It provides those with money with a pool of “talents” that could be hired to kill their personal enemies.

But the other possibility is even worse, and that is, that those masterminding the vigilante-style killings
in Cebu City are soliciting the help of hired killers to kill suspected robbers.

You won't improve the police force by giving them MORE CRIMES (vigilante murders!) to solve.

even if u have a good police force in this country... criminals will flourish... its our justice system... dapat ang police na maoy mo file ug kaso... dili pa katong na biktima

It's always easy to justify killing someone else's relatives. Just wait till these homicidal maniac vigilantes kill one of yours.
